Problem with uploaded photos

There seem to be an issue (?) with uploading images. I have uploaded a photo today and it looks like it's been up-sized (enlarged), which made it blurry. Have a look at the comparison below:

Is there a minimum resolution that is required for uploaded images?

In my opinion it would be good if the images could retain original size / resolution. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks,
J.

You can choose the size to display on a page, but otherwise, I think photos always display the same size.

Can you confirm that photos are enlarged? What is the purpose of it?

Photos are always the same size unless you display them on a page; then you can choose the size.

I believe the purpose has to do with making them mobile friendly, but I'm not sure since I'm not involved in any programming.

Photos uploaded to SummitPost are saved in their original form, but when they are served to users, they are "optimized" to reduce their size, minimize bandwidth use, and speed up page load time.

One thing I realized when uploading pictures to my latest trip report:

quite obviously colouring and exposure get changed. Why?

If you look at the TR
https://www.summitpost.org/three-weeks- ... ne/1045784

you'll see very blueish overexposed pictures (mainly those which deal with limestone rock are overexposed). The originals are quite different. I do understand size reduction by compression but this looks like a "optimization" gone wild.

The image serving site we are using automatically does some mild modifications to images to make them look "better" in most cases. It would appear that in some cases, they actually don't look as good :(
