Some of the old non .JPG files did that. I think .PNG?

That is correct. Anything that was BMP or PNG was accidentally deleted in one of the server moves a few years back.

Something really weird happens with this page:

If you scroll down, everything looks fine. If you scroll back up all the photos in 51-100 turn into the size of a pencil dot. Weird.

Finally dug up the missing images that made the star ratings break, uploaded them to the server in a new location and edited the HTML of that page to fix the broken images.

After about a month with no connection problems, some members, including Hiltrud Liu (https://www.summitpost.org/users/hiltrud.liu/29446, report that they cannot connect in any way with SP

I’m afraid I cannot rotate this portrait image:

I failed to do that the other day, then deleted the photo, resubmitted it, used the rotate button plus save again, flushed my browser, waited another day, and the image still does not display properly.

It seems to me it may only happen to the photos taken with my smartphone.

Seems like the problem can be sorted out

by rotating portrait images in GIMP or a similar program. Just submitted this one and it looks OK:
