Social Network Features Added

I noticed that there is now Social Network Features added to all the pages on Summitpost which here is a demo:
http://www.summitpost.org/north-west-fa ... ain/119466

Now personally I think its alright because I use facebook, but then again I dislike twitter and such. So what are your thoughts of this?
But I do agree that at the very least the formatting should be fixed. Perhaps at the bottom of each content page?

I don't care, as long as it continues to not affect the speed of the site. So far so good.

OK I just noticed they are at the top of every mountain page, not just on the side of image pages. That is rather annoying. Though it is only slightly, their current position pushes the content on page lower so that less is visible when looking at the page. It isn't a postive addition for me, then again I don't use any of those other sites.

I wish I could change my vote though. Maybe if it was put on the bottom of pages like the quotes, so no one would notice it?

So now the Twitter/Facebook icons are at the top of the front page... more important than the featured mountains, at least to the site owners I suppose.

Top of front page, top of every range/mountain/route page. Too much of this shite!

Funny how this thread doesn't go onto the frontpage. :? I wonder why. Is it the poll that prevents it?

That is very odd.

BTW Josh can you edit the OP to allow votes to be changed? (not sure if you can do that or not) I'd like to downgrade mine from 'don't care' as I didn't realize just how pervasive and in your face this was going to be.

I don't know why it's not on the front page, either. Maybe Josh's idea is right. Anyway, it's nothing a moderator has done.

I'm not sure if users can edit polls and don't feel like checking the permissions right now, so I enabled revoting on this poll. Let me know if it doesn't work.

I just made a few test posted (I deleted them afterwards) with polls and changing the post icon and such to see how it effected the frontpage deal. Both threads went onto the frontpage right away. :? When I first posted this thread it did not go on the frontpage which led me to believe it was no moderator that did that.

I think it would be best to position it on the left menu bar where many of the links are and have it labeled "Share this". Kinda like how there is a mini section called "Resources" which is a advertisement spot at the bottom of the left bar. It works out great on the images because it is on the right side of the image rather than the top.

You mean you don't like the twitter addition? Hopefully you still enjoy the farmville addition in the chat bar? :P

I'd choose 2 options if it was possible - 'this ain't scheissbook/twatter' and 'hate it'
Is it only my impression that SP's slowed down even more because of those gadgets?

If you don't like the social network features and use Firefox, try the Ghostery anti-tracking addon. Thanks to it I don't see them anymore. It can also block google analytics, doubleclick and such shite from tracking your web activities.

My most recent trip report has 20 SP votes and 48 FB likes. It's interesting that it received more votes from FB than the SP community. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.
