Don't follow saying what SPers think then...

Fair enough, but you either, if implying that everyone wants it. I said a poll should be taken and if most people want it, it should be reinstated.

I vote that SP needs more HUMOR .... after all, "laughter is the only medicine I can afford." :D

Chad, I was just giving Diego a hard time. :P

Fact is, I'm not against it .... but find it annoying as sin. So, I would be PRO-HUMOR and ANTI-CHAT.

1) What is so bad about a chatroom? If people don't like it, they don't have to click on it. If there's a time lag due to the existence of a chat room, the problem isn't the chatroom but the server and file architecture.

2) There are literally thousands of sites that provide 'wrap-around' features around a particular interest (cars, mountains, bodybuilding, politics). Other than the content, what makes this site different and if it is different, should it be? Why all the controversy? Articles on mountains and climbing, message board about the same topic, chatrooms about the same topic, etc. Is there a model site that people are yearning to emulate?

SP will be the same six months from now as it is today. Josh, Ryle, and Matt would put up with nothing else.

Oh really? :D  I've seen a few little changes in these parts.

*OFF TOPIC*

Don't know if this issue has been brought up before, but I notice that when I post on a thread, the time that is presented on my post is around 7 hours ahead. How can I change that to the time zone I live in?

Go to this page: ucp.php?i=173

You will see "My timezone". Change it to yours. 8)

Any interest in creating a poll to resurrect the chatroom? I for one would chip in for the development cost.

I don't think there is a development cost, since we had it before... but there was a cost to running the data and handling the load on the site.

I didn't really favor the chat going away, but in the end results showed it wasn't used that much and wasn't worth the impact it had. I'm sure that could change, but so far there aren't that many screaming for it.

Too many folks on FaceBook and twitter I guess.

I'm not too much in favor of it being global though out the site (as in display for everyone). What I would however be in favor of is either a dedicated page for it (wouldn't be hard to do) or as some sort of preference option. This way the people who want it can have it, this method should significantly reduce it's impact (in theory).

What about something like http://www.mibbit.com which would be totally off the site?

I've been a pretty regular user of SP since 2003. I scan the forums pretty regularly, I read trip reports, and I regularly reference the mountain pages. In all of this time I had no idea there was a chat feature. I would speculate that there are lot of users like me. If the chat feature is more visible or obvious I bet more people would use it.
