Recently, a member was posting high-rated photos that were falsified in a number of ways, and the member kept pretending until he was shown proof. Then he deleted the photos.

The picture you are talking about just is a case of someone making a mistake with the name, it seems.

Edit: I see she made the correction PAROFES and Silvia suggested.

Falsified photos, really? I totally disapprove this fact, as every kind of other faking, particularly in climbing!

I could tell that picture was a "fake" the moment I saw it ... you don't get pictures that clear of a raptor, and the tail-feathers weren't even disturbed by the wind.

A lot of members learned a valuable lesson from that one!

Reminds me of the song, "Shake Your Tail Feather," by the BLUES BROTHERS :!:

It wasn't even a real raptor. It was animated/CGI.

lcarreau's comment was hilarious.

Special talent to capture such a precise image of a fast moving Kestral ... almost unbelievable.

We have them here in Arizona.

This creature is a fast flyer, reaching flight speeds of 36-40 miles per hour !

Upon viewing your image, I see no indication of wind resistance on the tail feathers,
which is utterly amazing !

The response was even better.

Yes really. I was one of the earlier people who detected it and made my opinion public. Don't worry, I nicely approached the situation. :wink:

And actually... and I will say this in all seriousness... but this was the worst event of the situation in my opinion. And is the only part about it that I now find still unfortunate rather than humorous.

Josh very carefully inquired as to if a photo was manipulated, so that an owl was placed in it. He was very polite about it. Another fairly prominent member jumped on him for it and defended the photo. Fair enough... the other member had a different opinion and wasn't trying to mislead anyone. And know for a fact that this member dislikes that sort of photoshop as well. He didn't do anything wrong.

But all the while the guy who created the photo saw this going on and knew he had mislead others. He allowed others to defend him on his behalf knowing that they were making a mistake in doing so. Don't do that!

Well guys, the last one is the worst fact, i think: a behaviour to be quite blamed! I have understood all and i know who are the members in fact; i'm in good relationship with both them. But it's difficult to establish by people voting the pics if these ones are falsified, or if the images are superimposed, without making a very careful examen. I'm absolutely sure that the member who defended the other one and people who had voted these pics, did that in totally good faith, me at first!

Actually, this entire "escapade" reminds me of an "Alan Parsons Project" song that came out in 1980 when I was attending college ..

"Where do we go from here ? ..
Now that all of the children have grown up;
And how do we spend our time ..
Knowin' nobody gives us a damn !...?

Games people play, you take it or leave it;
Things that they say, just don't make it right!
If I'm tellin' you the truth right now, do you believe it ?
Games people play in the middle of the night ..."

I'm sure, too; that member is a good man.

Thank you very much Bob and Alberto. I wish I didn't have to learn my lesson the hard way!

Well Josh, I feel bad about jumping on you like that. In this case you were right and I was wrong. My apologies Josh!

But there are still a lot of members out there that vote 10/10 on everything, no matter how sparse the mountain page...

I think we should go to a system where people "like" a page, like on Facebook. There is no point to use a whole scale of votes, no one read pages anymore.

A few flaws with this statement:

1. Popular mountains 99% of the time will always get the higher score even in the future with that kind of a system.

2. There would be no way to tell the difference between a decent page and a excellent page. Kinda like grading with school.

3. "No one reads pages"? If no one reads pages, the main goal of SummitPost would be destroyed. While yes I love to throw in maps, eye candy, and interact with users, most non registered members some here for the beta. Lets not forget how many of them come here. Just because your not getting new votes doesn't mean people are not using your beta. If that was true, I have no reason to post maps here. :wink:
