Why am I losing pictures?

I do not usually keep track of the number of my pictures but a month ago I noted I had 7770 pictures, 2 weeks ago, I noted it had gone down to 7762 and this morning it is 7760. Where did the 10 pictures go? I do not care about losing 10 out of 7770 pictures but they might have been important route pics. How do I know which ones were lost?

I've done some checking and learned that I've lost 12 pics sometime in the last few months. I have no idea which ones, and don't know how long ago it happened.

It was someone who hacked SP.

I too lost at least four photos. I have not extensively checked. I'm down to a single hand due to another surgery from my climbing accident last year. :( I also lost three trip reports.

The pictures are now apparently back. My count is up to 7770 again.
Thanks to whoever fixed it.

Well, not entirely back....

Unfortunately when whoever hacked the site deleted the image pages, the actual images were deleted from our Cloud server. There are far too many images to realistically back them all up, so the actual image files are lost :(

Here's a list of all of the images that were lost, sorted alphabetically by username who submitted them, so that people can look through and find their images and re-upload them (or delete the page) if they so choose:

Interesting! I was checking out some of my pages the other day and came across several with missing photos. When I clicked on the black space I got "this photo has been deleted." I have much too many pages to go through and find out how many photos I may have lost.
The other thing that has been happening lately is just before the holidays I noticed my power points had gone up by, I don't know, may be 15 or so. Then I noticed this morning that I had lost all those extra points. I wonder if the "lord of Summitpost" is back in action, or that we have a new lord!

If you mean Power Lord, his intentions never seemed malicious.

To restore your images:

  • View the deleted list
  • Hit control + F
  • Type your username to bring you to your images
  • Right click all the links that say "Link to page" and open in new tab
  • On each image simply go to 'edit page', click the browse button, select image, then submit.

This should restore the photo on the image page and make it look like nothing ever happened. :) If 5 images are gone for example, should only take a few minutes to fix.

For anyone that might want to help track the person down, here is the IP address:

96.5.28.23

Unfortunately, it came from the Indiana State Library in Tennessee, near Dowelltown. If you know of any members in that region of Tennessee who might have a beef with SP, don't be afraid to come forward and exposed them.

Could you be a bit more specific? What are you seeing? The deletion log doesn't show any pages being deleted...
