Topic removed. Why?

I'm just curious why my Topic titled "To the Rangers and SAR of Mt Shasta" I posted on 4th of June, 2018, in the California section was just completely removed without any explanation?

It may have been accidentally deleted? I posted in the elve's forum asking if anyone knows why it was deleted, but no one who usually moderates the forums seems to know anything about the deletion.

Unless something is spam there is almost no moderation on the forums lately.

Another possible, but unlikely reason might be that it was hacked. Hackers can no longer delete content added to SP, so I guess they could have gone after the forum instead?

Are there anymore missing threads anyone is aware of?

I did not delete it, but I checked the moderator logs and found who did. It's not my habit to identify who did what unless I was the one, but maybe that mod will see this post and explain.

Since I never read the post, I have no guesses.

It wasn't me either... but I saw the post. Its reasonable to assume the explanation is that it wasn't the best place to put a communication intended to be directed to those specific individuals... partly as there isn't anything to support that they are even members here. And it is already part of the discussion in other threads. You probably already knew that?

Posts with the same content are still here, just not another entire thread on it. I would not have deleted it... well... I didn't even after seeing it. But it doesn't surprise me and I think it is reasonable to just forget about it.

BTW I was up at Clear Creek trailhead a couple of weeks ago. I am surprised I didn't see you there or on the route!

I had a picture removed of praising the Lord in the snowfields of Aleyeska. I was kneeling with a flag that had a cross and star of David on it.

Puma concolor wrote:I checked your “deleted” image and it is a .bmp, which means that the new SP format does not recognize it even though it’s an old image. Maddingly frustrating I know but not targeted in any way. I lost about 10 .png photos since the transition. Basically anything I had zoomed in on after taking the photo and then screenshoting. Took me a long while to finally put all the pieces together.

I'm so sorry for the loss of those files. I have since fixed the issue on the new server to accept png and bmp files, but unfortunately the older files that were already uploaded to the site have been lost. As of a few days ago, new bmp and png files uploaded will be fine going forward.

Sorry, I didn't see this thread until now. I was the one who deleted clmbr's thread. It was redundant to several others he's posted already about the subject. Way overboard, and to the point where it just wastes time and space. I make no apologies (other than not responding sooner).

I understand that moderators have to make decisions that not everyone will like. However, when a thread is nuked, I think an explanation should be volunteered and not have to be asked for. i.e. I think it should be policy that a pm is sent at the time of the nuking.

So like if someone or even a bot posts a lot of spam then an explanation should be given that it was deleted because it was spam?

I think the reality is that threads are deleted every day... usually just spam. In those cases... and even in this case... the reason is already known by the person who posted the thread!

No, I'm not talking about spam, religious rants, political rants, people trying to sell stuff etc. I considered adding that caveat to my original post but wanted to make it brief. I thought that case was too obvious to mention. I'm assuming the OP did not know why his post was deleted or he wouldn't have made the post. In this particular case the individual has been a member of sp for 11 years. If someone joins for the day for instance and makes a post deemed unworthy, then they are not due the same consideration. However, is it really that hard to send a brief pm? Aren't spammers deleted along with their spam so that gets rid of all of those cases. How often are threads nuked when the poster isn't nuked with them?

I agree, someone posts comments that are obviously thought out and with passion isn't going to understand why someone elses thought is that the comments are repetitive, unnecessary , or even drivel. Taking 30 seconds to send a PM is warranted.
