Hi All!

Im going to be driving though Idaho in early April and wanted to check out Borah Peak.

Does anyone have insight on conditions and would anyone be interested in tagging along for an adventure?
My Plan is to take the Standard Route up the SouthWest ridge line and then scramble up Chickenout Ridge. This route/plan would depend on snow and weather conditions.

Thanks,
Dan

There will definitely be snow. How much? You'll have to wait and see. Some years Chicken Out is double-corniced. Some years, it is more dry. But I have seen people using crampons and ice axes in June, so be prepared.

To help you see conditions, visit this web cam:

And here's Borah in the middle of May last year (and this year, so far, is snowier):

I got snowed out last year on July 11th so I'd say it's going to be totally weather dependent. I'd imagine you'd run into some pretty deep drifts below the treeline in April as well. Mountain Forecast has a Borah specific page too that might help. http://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/ ... casts/3859

Unless we have a very warm spring, you'll likely run into a LOT of snow. That basin is currently reporting well ahead of schedule for yearly snowpack. The webcam that Splattski linked to is a great one to check for conditions.
