Snow shoes vs Skis in Ruth Gorge
Posted: Fri Feb 19, 2010 3:37 pmHeading to Ruth Gorge, Alaska in May, wondering what advantages and disadvantages to both. I figure less luggage with snow shoes compared to skis. Any thoughts?

Posted: Fri Feb 19, 2010 6:03 pmI took skis to the Ruth Gorge and it seemed pretty ideal. The extra baggage fees for the skis was not ideal though.
Posted: Tue Feb 23, 2010 6:01 pmSkis - more fun and better weight distribution. Left them 2/3 up the root canal and switched to climbing boots.

Posted: Tue Feb 23, 2010 6:39 pmI did ok with snowshoes on the Ruth. Left them as the previous poster at the base of the icefall going up to the Root Canal.
Posted: Wed Feb 24, 2010 7:51 pmWe had AT skis there and I'm so glad we did. We came down from Root canal after Ham @ Eggs , set-up camp near the Sheldon house and went all the way to the end of West Fork pask mt Huntington and back in one day - easily. Try it with snowshoes!
