CC has trip report that CD route on Baker is questionable??? Is that true? Thinking of taking a newbie up there over the 4th of July week... What's the report there please?

That is definitely the word on the street. Apparently a crevasse spanning the entire glacier below the Baker-Colfax saddle is making it tough. There are plenty of other interesting routes that should still be in shape: Easton Glacier, Boulder Glacier, Sauk Glacier and I can recommend all of them as being not any more difficult that the CD. The Boulder Glacier has an interesting, varied approach and one section of 3/4 class scrambling.

I was up there 2 weeks ago and that crevasse was starting to open up, snow level was really really low. I wouldn't be surprised if CD is more or less impassable.

Baker Easton Glacier, route in very good shape, 6 of us made the summit by 11:00 AM after a questionable weather forecast. 7-5,6 2019.

:D Told you. Nice work, Baker is my favorite volcano, and way to find a weather window!
