Congratulations...
I was sick (influenza) and lost it. heard that you found "Mostafa" and made it yourself. How was the south route? probably crowded?
To whom may be interested in climbing Damavand :
from now till next summer, take care of the weather. it's going to be cold ...

We may have a winter climb to Damavand. I'm not sure we met you if you have fixed your plan (as I didn't meet WouterB too :( ). we decide to push from the north route and descend from the south route. but due to heavy backpacking up to peak (needs to carry tents and such) it may change to south or north route (mostly south route because it's the normal route). anyway, it depends on the weather. it may be a 3 day trip from 10 to 13 Feb 2009.
Please inform me if you are interested. WouterB also can give you good information about traveling to Iran.
and about certificate, yes I think they do (I've never got it so I don't know about details but I can ask it for you)

Is the new cabin in use? Is there other information about this (size, standard etc.)?

If I were you, never rely on cabin or such ...

I'm back. (LoL! I hope I will come back all the times  dude )
I couldn't make it not because of the hard work it need but I need 1 more day and I must be back at work on Saturday. so I left it for next month. but
It there is something I learned not to rely on weather forecasts:
WE HAD SNOW AND BLIZZARD !

we tried from the south route. After Poloor we start to hike. About 5:00 pm on first day we reached the Goosfandsara and stayed till morning. next day we went to "bargah 3" at about 4300 m and stayed for one more day due to acclimatization. At 3rd day, it was time for me to return because I should be on work for the next day. if I'd pushed the summit then 1 more day were needed. We made a mistake and thought our rent vehicle will take us to "Goosfandsara" but we were Disembarked far from "Goosfandsara" due to icey road and potential danger for rented minibus.

Been away from SP for a while. I started a new job and it's been busy. But since it's a new year, I'm making new plans. For now I'm thinking of climbing Damavand again, since I liked it. I will however take more time to do so.

Doberman, when I was there, the new cabin was far from being finished. They had already stopped working and I don't think they are up their right now in the snow and cold.

I'm currently looking into combining Damavand with Pik Lenin. I would however travel by train to Iran (to save me some money), climb Damavand and then go back to Tehran for a flight to Pik Lenin. It seems however to be quite hard to find flights. Especially since their websites aren't in a language I understand. I'll be starting a new topic soon to get some help on that one. I'll most likely be solo again, so if anyone is interested... .

The building is finished but do not offer any service yet. (cause of the snow)
we spent a night at the old little hut.

Anyway if you are coming back WouterB, you will see a quite different face of Damavand !
