Cho Oyu Fall 2016 or Spring 2017

Hello,

I'm currently in the planning stages for Cho Oyu for the fall of 2016 or spring 2017 from the Tibet side. I have done a good amount of research on the climb and decided to go for Base Camp service only with one of the following logistic companies:
1. http://www.summitclimb.com/new/default.asp?vid=84
2. http://www.sevensummittreks.com/package ... yu-89.html

Both have good reputation for base camp service. The cost will be between USD 5,000-7,000 from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. I'll go with the cheaper outfitter.

I plan to follow a similar schedule to that of International Mountain Guides found here: http://www.mountainguides.com/cho-oyu-itin.shtml.

I plan to climb with no oxygen and no Sherpa support. I have previously made the summit of Manaslu, another 8,000m peak without oxygen in 2012, a couple of 7,000m peaks and a bunch of other mountains around the world. I spent 7 months in Nepal on my last trip and is fairly familiar with the country. I'm looking for a partner with similar experiences. Ideally you would have climbed an 8,000m peak.

Give me a shout if you are an independent climber and don't want to pay a boat load of cash to climb an 8,000m peak. You must also love Dal-Bhat. This is not an option.

Best,
Kevin

I have received confirmation from Dan Mazur @ Summitclimb and the price for BC service only for Cho Oyu is USD 6,650 and there's space for the fall 2016 climb.

I will be on the full version of the climb this fall. Any interest in doing some training outings in the Sierras?

I live in south Orange County and would love to tag along on some training hikes if you'll have another...

Probably out for Cho Oyu tho... :)

Definitely. The more enthusiastic partners the more motivation!

"are you going with full service or basic service? which outfitter?"

Is this question for me or for "KurdishKlimber"?
If for me, I am going with basic service, no sherpas, no guides, no oxygen (at least up the mountain :)
Outfitter - has not chosen yet. The one with Dan Masur looks good.
Sorry, this site is confusing for me. Though I have a profile on I don't even know how to get to this page from the site, I google it.

Hi Kevin

Are you still looking for a climbing partner for Cho Oyu? I'm thinking of going this fall, with the Mazur outfit if they still have places open, very preferably on the basic service option. I've been to Nepal 3 times, for about a month each time, climbed Mera Peak, trekked extensively on my own, and found (perhaps because of my swimming background) that I'm really comfortable at altitude. I'd love to try the Cho Oyu / Shisha double actually, without oxygen. The last time I was in Thamel I had everyone and their dog offering me 'bargain' climbs of Cho Oyu, got so confusing in the end I didn't know who was legit and who wasn't. Give me a shout if you haven't found anyone yet.

Cheers mate
Miles
