Not sure if I'm reading this correctly, but it looks like the pick-up driver got to the turn-off for the Bristlecone Pine Natl Monument, then only got 3/4 mile up the Monument Road? The gate across the road is about that far from Hwy 168, maybe they got stuck in the snow/ice/mud and couldn't back out. Not a smart idea to go up there this time of year unless you have driving skills, knowledge, XC skis, and are not in an 'altered state of consciousness'.

Back in 2004, some repairmen get stranded at the Silver Peak cell tower when a storm blew in. We snowmobiled up White Mountain Road all the way from Hwy 168 to bring them out. I'm not really a fan of snowmobiles, but that was a fun ride. The snow was so fun. Sorry about the tiny picture, but it was before good digital cameras.
