What's been your last skiing trip?

by Diego Sahagún » Sat Mar 03, 2012 5:17 pm

Though there is not too much snow this season in Spain I've been track skiing in Astún (Aragonese Pyrenees) and La Covatilla, Sierra de Béjar (Sistema Central). I hadn't skied in two years so I enjoyed those short trips so much. In both cases there was sunny weather, warm temperatures and very good mates.

Put your last skiing experiences here, either track or backcountry.

Not much snow here and I don't ski but I've found a few spits of snow to play on my board in the Sierra.

20 miles two days ago, 7 mile approach on dry trail, 1 mile of terrible snow, 1 mile of good snow, 1 mile of alright snow.

Diego, how is the skiing in early December in the Pyranese? Do you know anything about the alps at that time? I'm visiting and have this idea of trying to ski around early december/late november.

All resort action so far for me this winter. My son is on his high school race team, so I've been volunteering up there every weekend, with a smattering of free skiing thrown in here and there. .
We had a relatively dry Dec. and Jan. in the Pacific Nortwest, but, have received another blast of winter as of late. Did my share of knee-deep powder skiing last weekend, and it was mighty fine, though I was a bit sore from skiing hard with the hot shot crew for two days in a row. . .
Fun stuff, for sure.

Backcountry sort of, last Sunday at Steamboat Lake, 25 miles north of Steamboat Springs. Plenty of snow and winter beauty. Hahn's Peak (10,839 ft) over a frozen Stemboat Lake in this photo.

drpw, I've gone to ski in The Alps once in mid November but you wont find enough snow in The Pyrenees then. The resorts in the last use to open by December 6th. Anyway, if you go to The Alps go to a resort with glaciers, you wont have issues with few snow in late November, even you could ski in summer

We toured into Avalanche Lake in the Adirdonacks (New York) for Trap Dike, got shut down by avalanche danger and toured back out. 14 miles of rolling, narrow, terrain. They called it backcountry touring, I call it suffering.
