Great Fun

No solitude, but the climb was great fun. Included a side trip to tag Razorback Ridge. Saw a big rattlesnake in the trail on the way back. Trip Report

Picacho Peak

Kessler and I first headed for Windy Point on Mount Lemmon to do some climbing. The temperature was pleasant, even in the morning and we climbed several routes.

We then headed for La Milagrosa Canyon for some canyoneering. We hiked (it was hot, even in February) to the head of the canyon and dropped in. There were three rappels including one into a long and deep swimming hole. We could have avoided it, but since it was February, we decided to take the more interesting and direct route through the swimming section. It was chilly, but we quickly warmed up.

Once we were at the bottom of the last rappel we found that we left the cell phone on a rock, so we found a climbing route to the rim of the canyon where Kessler rapped in to retrieve the cell phone.

It was afternoon, but we still wanted to climb Picacho Peak, so we hurried and drove to the state park. We had to talk them into letting us in since sunset wasn't that far away, but we hurried and did the climb and made it back by sunset.

Fun winter jaunt

Took the Hunter's Trail and cables straight up; not as steep as I'd expected, but the cables definitely helped (and good extra protection for the kids!). Beautiful views and Sonoran desert scenery. We also stayed at the nice State Park campground at the foot of the mountain before heading south next day to Organ Pipe.

Shoes this time = FKT's

Had the opportunity to do this, despite just running up Pusch Peak last night.
The first time I came up here I left my shoes home so I had to this rocky, jagged, gnarly peak wearing socks: https://www.strava.com/activities/1572320444 Needless to say, it was a much different, faster experience this time :)
Ran up in 25:42 and down in 15:44.
I think I could go sub 40 round trip more rested—-without a big peak last night and a tough trail race in the last 3 days. Also, amazing how much shorter even good GPS measures things when you're moving quick.

Sunset Trail

This is a good peak to take people to who want to experience climbing without much risk. Many safety measures makes for a pretty chill day, but still plenty of fun. Eighty minutes to the top from the west side. Spectacular views in all directions.

Fun little hike

Shoeless FKT? Forgot shoes, ran up anyway

Drove down from Gilbert and as we were pulling up, I realized I left my shoes. I started trying to fashion some protection against the rocks and heat out of a Mike and Ike's box, but then my wife gave me her insoles from her shoes, so I put those in my socks and away we went running to the top! It was rocky and hot, and my feet were fairly toast by the time we were done, but it was totally worth it!

Picacho

Pretty fun, although all the cables and fences are kind of lame. The summit could be attained easily without them and would be far more meaningful...

Fun Scramble

Took advantage of a "cold spell" and did the peak on a whim as I had a half day off. Temperatures were still in the low 80s though and it felt too hot to do Razorback Ridge as well but will come back to do it.

Easy fun

Something to do while waiting for the snow up high to cook down. A fun climb, especially if you try not to touch the cables. Trip report, though it's mostly about getting spanked by Mount Lemmon the day before...
