This is a good peak to take people to who want to experience climbing without much risk. Many safety measures makes for a pretty chill day, but still plenty of fun. Eighty minutes to the top from the west side. Spectacular views in all directions.
Very steep and we were hammering up towards the summit. Overall, a good experience. Hiked with Razorback Ridge
Great scramble. This hike is a lot of fun.
Drove down from Gilbert and as we were pulling up, I realized I left my shoes. I started trying to fashion some protection against the rocks and heat out of a Mike and Ike's box, but then my wife gave me her insoles from her shoes, so I put those in my socks and away we went running to the top! It was rocky and hot, and my feet were fairly toast by the time we were done, but it was totally worth it!
My son Evan (Lcpl USMC) and I had a perfect day with about a 100 other people. Shared fun, plenty to go around.
Pretty fun, although all the cables and fences are kind of lame. The summit could be attained easily without them and would be far more meaningful...
Took advantage of a "cold spell" and did the peak on a whim as I had a half day off. Temperatures were still in the low 80s though and it felt too hot to do Razorback Ridge as well but will come back to do it.
Short, steep and great views at the top. Fun times.
Fun hike and I combined it with a quick ascent of Razorback Ridge on my way down.
Up and down Hunters Trail. Fun scramble near the top...too many gnats up there!
Something to do while waiting for the snow up high to cook down. A fun climb, especially if you try not to touch the cables. Trip report, though it's mostly about getting spanked by Mount Lemmon the day before...
Did this peak on a weekday so it wasn't too crowded. Hiked up from the Hunter Trail.
Great hike with my dad!
I've wanted this peak for years. Fun hike!
Fun hike/scramble with the cables. I hiked up the Hunter Trail.
This is a fun quick hike. I really enjoyed the cables and the views.
Hiked it when I heard the park was going to close!
i was driving by it for work so i figured what the hell...
the gate attendent told me it was getting late for a hike to the summit to start at noon and that the average hiker did it in 4 hours..
1:15 car to car
Oy, the heat almost killed us, but three Coloradans took the Sunset Trail to the summit of Picacho, then looped over the saddle to UN 3161 which has a divine little knife edge and summit scramble...then we staggered back through the heat to the car. What a wonderful day! Partner: Candace & Dave.
