Pico de Orizaba
Three of us from Calgary spent a couple weeks in the area. Sr Reyes provided some logistical support (food and driving - this was a luxury trip!) We hiked up La Malinche first for acclimitization and then continued over to Orizaba. Evan Jones and I summitted on November 28, 2014.
The normal route that proceeds directly up from high camp is not worth doing anymore. Since I was last here 19 years ago, the glacier has receeded about 50% so the first half of that route is now scree. Instead, bear right and take the ridge up. It is still just a simple walk to the summit.
A beautiful day with great weather and photo opps. Garmin 64s says the summit is at 5640m - extremely close to other reports (eg wikipedia). After the climb we spent a couple of days in Oaxaca and then some beach time in Puerto Escondido. (where we were robbed - but that's another story)
