Climbed with Holly and Red from Siyeh, descended through lunch creek into the worst lightning and hail in my life. Scary weather.
I can't think of a better way to sweat out a hangover.
Fun mountain to climb. Climbed with Rebelgrizz & Cougar14.
1982 with Bill. Also summited Pollock.
Again with Ron in 2012 after climbing Pollock from Lunch Creek.
Climbed solo. Was a perfect sunny day. Went on to Cataract after this one. My profile photo was taken from this summit with Siyeh in the background.
summitted amidst fresh snow and thick fog with a group of hardy companions. initial plan was to traverse to Pollock and Bishops Cap before heading down Piegan Pass, but weather changed our plans. found out our compass was broke while lost in the fog in trying to descend back to Lunch Creek. eventually ended up descending the south side of the mountain, wrapping E/SE around Piegan Glacier. we climbed down a variety of class III and IV gullies until several hundred feet above the Going-to-the-Sun Road; found a game trail in a large, grassy area and took it south until the trail disappeared. scrambled down talus and bushwhacked for about 10 minutes before spitting out just west of Siyeh Bend.
Approached the saddle from Lunch Creek and then climbed up to the summit. Terrible wind just like last year. I only spent a few minutes at the summit and was ready to leave. Climbed with Rebelgrizz and JFK.
Climbed with G.M.S. Met Buddy Al, on that trip.
A short approach from a high trailhead makes this an attractive climb.
did this in the afternoon as an introduction to Glacier NP. Upper Lunch Creek is very pretty and I nearly ran into a group of Bighorns. Plenty of loose rock to negotiate on the way up to the ridge. Good views from the top
Climbed a few times.
One of my last summits in glacier park in the 1999 season
good fun with a dusting of snow!
First summit ever!
Windy again on the summit and approach. Same as 2002 climb.
Second time with much better weather. July 25, 2010 with Tim B. and Matt R.
Third time during traverse from Highline Trail to Bishops Cap to Pollock and then Piegan on August 18, 2010.
Fun climb, Some snow up lunch creek drainage and in access chute but could be avoided or easily crossed. summited after climbing Pollock. High winds at saddle.
Climbed the NW Ridge with Bob Stephan from the Pollock / Piegan saddle as the last part of a traverse of Bishops Cap, Pollock & Piegan.
Descended via the SW slopes to Lunch Creek and the road.
Climbed with OTHG from Lunch Creek
Also climbed 8/11/94 with Vern Ingrahm along with Cataract and Pollock and 7/8/01 with GMS along with Pollock and Bishop's Cap
A beautiful wind free mid 70's late summer day. Crowds non-existent. A rare look at all the peaks without snow and the brown tundra surrounding Logan Pass. This made the list as one of my favorite climbs.
Also, made a trip up on 8/1/2004 after a long day on Bearhat the day before.
Enjoyable solo climb. Ascended via snow-filled couloir leading off to the right at the top of the large basin which provides entry (and through which Lunch Creek flows) to both Piegan and Pollock. Did the couloir to practice using crampons (which were an absolute necessity on the ice), but it would have been easy enough to avoid the couloir had I so chosen.
Mis-judged my water supply (that is, I drank it all!), and thus descended the SW-facing slope during one of the hottest days of the entire summer with nothing to drink; approximately half way down, just when the heat was becoming quite uncomfortable, I came across a spring flowing out of the mountain. Cold, cold, cold, and the best water I've ever had in my life!
