We came out for Thanksgiving and were planing on doing the Flat Iron but a plane crashed into it, killing a family. Very sad, so we had to change our plans. On our way to do a quick run up Camelback there was an air rescue going on so we changed some more plans and did Piestewa. Nice workout but strange set of circumstances.
Came from north side/echo canyon and scrambled to the trail. twas fun!
We were just driving around the Phoenix area and stumbled across the parking lot for the trail head. So we decided to give it a go! Love how this peak is located in the middle of the city. Nice day, great weather and fun little hike. Quite busy.
I had been wanting to visit this peak for several years. With a few extra morning hours prior to flying out, I took a chance with little information other than a street map. I was surprised to find such a great area and trail system. The Summit Trail should be renamed "Piestewa Peak Superhighway" due to the amount of people there. Awesome views. Great conditioning hike!
Climbed this for the first time in 1997.
Nine times since 2000.
In the area for work. Had done Camelback the prior night. Fantastic urban hikes. If you only have time for one I would recomend Camelback via Echo Canyon. Been lucky to be in the desert in spring last few years. Everyting in bloom, very nice!
The trail was crowded and a majority of the people on the trail had no concept that hikers going up have the right of way... all of that being said, it was worth it once we got to the bronse medallion at the top. What a view! Make sure you get there early though because the parking lot was completely full by 7am.
Arrived at 8 AM to find all parking spots were taken. These mountains get pretty crowded this time of year.
Nice hike on a Thanksgiving visit. Maybe even more popular then the Camelback route we did a couple days earlier. Similar hikes but I liked Camelback more
I've climbed this peak 15-20 times while living in the Phoenix area at various times. I loved having a retreat so close to the city.
Beautiful day for a fun little hike. Thanks Deron.
Hiked this with my girlfriend when I was visiting here in Phoenix. For being right in the middle of a city, this is a really really cool peak. The views are also really amazing. We had a bunch of rain so that made it really slick on the descent.
nice phoenix views
Was in Phoenix for the Rock & Roll Half Marathon. Planned a few extra days so that I could get a couple of hikes in. The trail was pretty busy, but we had the summit to ourselves for a few minutes. A perfect January day and my 46th birthday!
A classic hike in Phoenix area. It will always be Squaw Peak to me. Wanted to set up a page on here thinking it wasn't here, but they changed the name....
Climbed this after work once a week from the end of May til the end of August while I was living in Phx last summer. I would have loved to run it but my short legs are no match for some of the larger rock steps!
Forgot my headlamp once while doing a sunset climb, had to descend in the pitch black which took longer than the climb up!
I was dropped off at the parking lot by a friend. It was very hot, but summit fever grabbed hold of me and I sweated my way to the tippy top. When I arrived back down to the trailhead, I had no transportation to the Marriott. So after a couple of attempts I bummed a ride from someone and successfully made it poolside.
If 1 in 1000 of the Piestewa Peak climbers would
graduate to the hiking the Arizona County High
Points then we could lap Rhode Island in completions.
Great overcast day, and a great summit...were it not for the hordes of flying ants and the ultra-mugginess from monsoon season! Still a great peak to climb...just do it in the winter!
