had to turn around at 13,000' due to the fact the sun had set...temperatures became an issue..a nice ass kicking 24 mile hike
Spent a lot of time crouching behind rocks on my first Pike summit to prevent being whisked off to Kansas.
This was my fourth time climbing Pikes Peak. Each time was via Crags Campground.
This was my first time climbing Pikes Peak. It was via Crags Campground route.
this mountain never gets old. Every time i head up, i discover something new about it!
I know it's cheating, but I was young and I was there. Will go back and do it the proper way eventually!
I was about ten or so, My father and i climbed the craigs route. it was great!
OK, so sometimes I like being out in the middle of nowhere climbing peaks few have climbed. However, there is something attractive about a well-known peak like Pikes. Sure, you encounter everyone from partying kids to fitness junkies on the Barr Trail. Yet, that's part of the allure. I've spent several nights in the treeline A-Frame, and have always met the most interesting people. I don't get to Colorado often, but will return to that A-frame every time I do.
I was a kid on a field trip with my parents... but I was still there
Ok, I'll admit it. I drove. But I'm going back!
Hiked up the Barr Trail as part of the Pikes Peak Challenge to benefit TBI victims.
Started at Manitou Springs early in the morning for the long hike up. Nice trail all the way up with lots of solitude and then at the summit you cross train tracks, have a hot dog and a cold or hot drink and perhaps even a bowl of chili and are assaulted by a mass of people who either drove up or took the cob rail. Strange.
Hiked with my friend. Hiked Barr Trail from Manitou Springs. Only went up due to lightning storms. Completed in 5 hours. Deep snow on parts of trail near summit.
about what you have heard.
Up and down via the Barr Trail in the 1997 Pikes Peak Marathon. 3:30 up, 2:10 down. Going down was a lot harder!!
Via the Barr trail...beat my intended time, not too bad for a flatlander!! (4:06).
via Barr. Unintended stop along a SW hiking swing, but well worth it.
Just signing the log. Climbed Pikes several times in 2005 as training for Rainier. Awesome peak, but a bit weird to get to the summit and contend with the parking lot, heavy breathin' tourists, and the train!
