Little did I know the bug that it would plant in me for climbing mountains. Reclimbed every year since.
Hiked up from Manitou Springs. Loved it!
Love the "Oxygen bar"!
Went on R&R from Iraq, got married, flew to Colorado Springs, hiked up (gorgeous weather in June), ate a cheeseburger, rode the train back, drank a Rolling Rock.
Climbed this one solo. This was an enjoyable hike spent the night in Barr Camp. Weather hit on day 2. Long hike, but there was not as many people as I expected...except on the top.
Several ascents. Drive-up counts for me.
Zero degrees most of the day. Sunset around 4 pm. Minor frostbite on the toes. Overnight coming and going at Barr Camp.
Can't say I technically climbed the mountain. Rode the cog rail with all 15 of my family members. They are not climbers, so it was fun to share in the moment with them.
Hiked the Crags route, started in darkness. First one on the summit that day, so I won all the accolades of the train riders.
Snow starting 1000 ft below the summit, hale storm at 12000 ft and some thunder
Pikes Peak was my last Front Range 14er. I climbed with my CMC BMS instructor, Robert. We had planned to climb the Eolus group this weekend, but the weather was not looking good out there. We camped the night before, started at 6AM, summited at 10, nabbed Devils Playground summit and Teller County Highpoint, and arrived back at the parking lot arount 2:45PM. The weather was OK: pretty cloudy but it did not rain or snow on us. Lots and lots of tourists at the summit.
Went total cheeseball and drove to the summit. Stepped out of the car and promptly sprained my ankle on a rock--first painful hiking injury I've ever had. Next time I'm hiking; it's gotta be safer!
Made it to the top w/o a car!
The trip that finally made me a true Coloradan! :) It was both my first 14er and first backpacking trip (well, second, techincally - I backpacked up to Barr Camp a couple weeks prior, woke up the next morning to find it was the wknd of the PPA/PPM, so didn't summit that time around). Have been up several times since, including a PPA finish in 2005.
Made the summit with every student in the mountain course. It was in the 20s at 0630 on the summit. On top with Pat, Bryson and Walt.
Shot of bad whiskey on top but good times.
via the barr trail in the 2010 pikes peak marathon. went off course to tag the actual summit, 6 minutes that were worth it to me...tr here http://zoomloco.xanga.com/732717261/purple-mountain-majesties/
Hiked to the summit of Pikes from Crags TH. Nice hike before crossing the road, beautiful weather. 3:20 hrs ascend from TH to the summit, 2:50 hrs down with visiting Little Pikes.
Grew up next to this mountain, and it took having a friend fly in from New York to finally get up. We climbed on north side via the crags route. Had lots of fun!
Went via the Craggs, long walk, honestly not the most impressive hike I have ever been on.
