Bagging Pikes from Crags
Went with the girlfriend from the Crags Campground through Devil's Playground. Great hike and awesome weather. This was my 4th 14er behind Sneffels, Wetterhorn, and San Luis. This hike is much longer than I expected, although it is not technical in the slightest besides some snow patches towards the top which are probably gone now...I have a lot more respect for Pikes after climbing it. Be sure to get the doughnuts from the top whichever way you go.
Up from the Crags with wife and youngest son. My third time up Pikes Peak. My son found two geodetic survey markers within a dozen or so feet of each other. I believe both said 1953. I didn't know there were two. One for state, one for federal?

Redemption on NW Slopes
2nd try after first attempt 4 weeks ago. Much less snow this time and trail was already broken above treeline! Posthole-city on descent but can't complain because weather was PERFECT. Sunny and blue sky most of time! Wind at the right time to cool down!

Hiked it, then ran it
Hiked up the Barr Trail over 2 days with my family to get a lay of the land before I ran the Pikes Peak Ascent on 8/16. Success both times though weather on the summit was bad in both instances so we saw no views.
Ran the Ascent in 3:45 in a snowstorm in August. Go figure!

Via the Crags
Done this route numerous times. It's so much better than hiking through the crowds on the Barr Trail. Favorite time is Spring on tele skis; coming down the bowl from Devil's Playground is a blast!

Barr Trail, One Day
Made it to the summit in 5 hours 34 minutes. Timed it perfectly AGAIN so I made it to the summit just as the Cog was pulling up and 40,000 people poured out! Left right away and headed down. Did round trip in 9 hours 32 minutes. Will be back to beat time soon. Great hike, great mountain, Cog Railway is run by the Devil!

Crag's
Nice trip with a lot of snow, about a foot close to the summit. It was great that the restaurant was open and I could have a coffee. During another attempt in December 29th 2009, I fell on Barr Trail near 13000 feet and dislocated both shluders and was rescued. I repeated Barr trail approach March 5th 2012 and found the piece with this beautiful mountain.

My first 14er
I made it up the easy, but relatively long Barr Trail for the first time as an 8 year old. We began just before dawn and made it to the summit for doughnuts by noon. I have hiked it again numerous times.
pleasant walk from Crags campground. Got to watch the bikers race up the highway. I was up there 35 years ago also but took the cog railway on that trip

Deceptively challenging
Lots of tourists arrive in Colorado Springs and think "Let's climb Pikes Peak!" Only to be pummeled for 13+ miles straight up. Friends don't let flatlander friends climb 14ers!

Doughnuts at the top! Yay!
So what if it's easy, I like hitting the majors! Funny thing was, other than a guy trying to mountain bike up (painfully slowly) I was only one on the trail that day and it's supposed to be a busy mountain. The parking lot at the top was hoppin' though!
