Pilot Peaking  Sucess!

I car camped near the mouth of Telephone Canyon while lightning crackled near the summit. The road gets a little smoother above the canyon.

Telephone canyon  Sucess!

A good road goes to the summit. 4WD with HC recommended. Steep on the descent in places so the extra low gearing range was appreciated to avoid riding the brakes. Nice views. Did this one with Ken Jones (who had been up before) and Dennis Poulin.

Telephone Canyon Route  Sucess!

Ascent via the telephone canyon road to point 6200ft, where I climbed a class 2 ridgeline to 8400ft. As I was climbing I was surprised to see the telephone canyon road winding up to the summit,(It wasnt shown on my topo map). I followed the road the remaining 800ft to the summit. This road is well graded, a high clearance vehicle should not have a problem unless it is wet or snow covered. Great views at the summit, all the way to Mammoth Mtn and Boundary Peak.

Did the NW Sub-Peak (8770') with Stan Wilkinson and another buddy. Due to morning delays, we did not have time to do the NW Ridge traverse to the true summit. We started the climb up a narrow wash about halfway between Water Canyon and Telegraph Canyon, where we saw a herd of Bighorns and some Chukar. Awsome views!!!
