Pinnacles

Pinnacles

This is a view west from Pinnacle Butte NE, and you are seeing the wall above Jules Bowl that connects Pinnacle Butee NW to the main summit. The two pinancles in view have seen few or no climbers. They are Class 5 climbs with tremendous exposure, and a look from any angle will confirm that, but even if the rock is reliable, and that is a big if here, just the approaches would be exceedingly difficult; the other side of the wall looks pretty much like this one. But the key factor is the rotten rock out here. It is usually too brittle for climbers to protect their climbs, and it might actually be safer to free solo these pinnacles, if you have the nerve for that. Absaroka Range, WY-- July 2009

Re: Superb!

I only wish I could traverse it. But the rock is very poor and beyond my abilities. Some pinnacles on this ridge have probably never been climbed.
