Piz Languard at dawn
On August 21, late in the afternoon, we made a quick ascent to the Georgy Huette from Alp Languard in less than 1,5 hours. After spending the night in the cosy Hut we went to the summit at dawn on the following day to watch the Sunrise on Bernina and co. Sadly for us, there was a thick cloud cover so no "alpenglow shots" like the awesome ones from Ericchu that inspired me to go up here! A bit dissappointed we went back to the hut, but at about 9AM the sky cleared and we had great views towards the Bernina Group after all. Great summit and I can recommend the Georgy Huettte.

Fabulous Day
Climbed Languard on a fabulous day. We actually could see far out into the western Alps, as far as Tödi, Eiger, Dom, Monte Rosa and even Gran Paradiso. Lucky in more than one way to be early and take the chair lift when it opened. Descending from the top we encountered large crowds. Instead of returning to the lift we went to Fuorcla Pischa, to Lai Languard and to Chamanna Paradis.

From Punt Muragl
A long hike from Punt Muragl. My first mountain of the week, so was a struggle to acclimatise. Excellent views of the Bernina Group and excellent views from the summit. Climbed on a beautiful sunny day, after it had been snowing the previous week, so lovely scenery.

Piz Languard
I actually climbed Piz Languard two times, once in July 1983 and once in September 1986. The latter was an unforgettable day! I travelled to Pontresina the day before, spent the night outdoors, just under the medieval tower, then started the walk up to Alp Languard at 4:00 a.m. It was still dark. I got to Alp Languard just as the first rays of daylight started to show up, and naturally, I was completely alone. The walk up to the summit of Piz Languard was a symphony of ever-changing colors, especially on the Bernina group! I arrived at the top at 8:00 a.m. and had a breathtaking early morning view over everything from the Ortler and Ötztal mountains to Mischabel and Monte Rosa! There are moments that seem just too good to be true...
Take my advice: Do it that way when going up Languard! Or, even better, reserve a sleeping facility at the Georgy hut! After 9:00 a.m., when the Pontresina-Alp Languard chairlift opens, there are so many people going up it's like a migration, especially on the good days...
