Boval hut - Piz Morteratsch- Tscheirva  Sucess!

Took my Swiss rock clmbing partner on his first hochtour (alpine mountaineering). Rock part was easy, did unroped, but the bare icy section just after the rock scramble was dodgy.

Route Climbed: North Ridge Date Climbed: august 2011  Sucess!

Climbed normal route from Boval Hut. Not really an interesting climb, although the view from the summit should make it worth considering...just make sure you will have a view...

From the Boval hut. Nice scrammbling up to the col. The snow on the ridge was perfect. Then down to the Tschierva hut.

Consolation for Biancograt  Sucess!

As it had been raining/snowing the previous day, we had missed out on Piz Roseg, and decided against an attempt on Piz Bernina (many people made it successfully eventually). So we did an early morning moonshine repeat climb of Piz Morteratsch. We reached the glacier just as the sun was rising. The previous day's snow had generally made the going easier (there were some sections of rock covered in ice before the glacier, tricky in the dark).

Fantastic views (of teams ascending the Biancograt), but also a cold wind greeted us at the top. We met many groups on our way down - the route was pretty crowded as it was a perfect week-end.

We were lucky with the weather  Sucess!

Slept late, and only started out from Tschierva Hut around 9. Made it to the top in 5 hours and back down in another 2, during which time the bad weather had moved in. Some sections above Fuorcla Boval were pretty icy.
