Overview
Piz Surgonda (3196 m) is a mountain in Switzerland, in the canton Grisons / Graubünden. The mountain is located in the
Albula Group, wich is part of the
Rhaetian Alps. The Piz Surgonda is just north of the Julier pass road, wich connects the villages of Sils im Engadin and Tiefencastel. The vicinity of the Julier pass is probably the most important reason why the summit is climbed pretty often, both in summer and in winter.
Piz Surgonda is despite it's height pretty easy to climb. Still, experience with (mountain)hiking is obligatory. The easiest route is
T5, on the SAC hiking scale, wich means that slopes can be pretty steep and covered with snow. The routes from the Julier pass are not very long, wich makes the summit popular. So, unfortunatly it can be quite busy on the summit. The summitview extends to the nearby
Piz Julier and the
Bernina Alps.
