Hi Dow,
I've to be in Calgary on Friday, July 27, till around noon, and then have to be back there on Monday (July 30) by 2 pm. I'd like to get some climbing in the Canadian Rockies in between. I've been to Banff/Canmore/Parkway for ice climbing the last three winters, but have not done any alpine routes yet. Was eyeing some classic lines such as Athabasca NF subject to conditions, but am open to suggestions. You could check my profile (and the link to my web page therein) to get an idea of my experience.

Will you be available for some climbing? I'll be driving to Calgary with all my gear, and hence could meet you at Canmore or somewhere else.

Cheers,
Bala

Bala, I will be here....I don't do repeats is the only rule...so study what you want to do and start throwing it my way...just check with my summit post stuff to see what I have done already....I was climbing with Lynette Lo yesterday and she wants me to reserve NF Athabasca for her when it turns ice (still snow)....sorry about that one....we must do something easy the first day so we both can determine we are comfortable with each others abilities...cheers

jwclimbsNo Repeats!?

My goodness Dow...soon you will need a Heli to access the few remote climbs you haven't yet done! We'll be in your neck of the woods Jan 24 - Feb1. Not having climbed but once in Alberta, we'll be looking to tic off more of the area's classic,...all of which you have done! Perhaps we can meet over a brew & pizza sometime then.

Cheers,
Jason

Yeah, well, I have done a few...but Jason, seriously, you could go a lifetime and not repeat anything in the Canadian Rockies, vast territory my friend. Looks like we will be crossing paths....you have a place to stay yet? I have not booked my ticket, but will be getting a condo/house for a base out of Canmore, sold my place this year. I will only be there for a week in Jan, then on to Africa for a bit and back in February...cheers

I'd like to come out to climb Athabasca but I'm having a hard time finding air transport. The nearest airport is Jasper-Hinton, but that doesn't come up on any of the itineraries hers in the States. Is there another larger airport somewhere? I appreciate the help.

Calgary is about 90 minutes away and there is an hourly shuttle called Banff Airporter.

""You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.""   --Rene Daumal
