I'm looking to hike Mt. Lyell in Yosemite sometime between mid-June through the end of July in 2008. I'll know more specifically when, as the time approaches. Any partners are welcome, so far there at least a couple who are interested. I'd like to try it as a very long dayhike, but may consider camping one night.

I am interested. What is the trip description? I am more interested in hiking to a base camp then summiting the following day. Let me know the description and I might be game. I want some training hikes for the fourteeners.

I'm thinking that hiking to base camp on one day, spending the night, and then hitting the summit and heading all the way back to the trailhead on the second day is most likely what we will do. The first day appears to be long-distance but fairly minimal elevation gain (~2,000'). The second day appears to have a bit more elevation gain (~2,500') and the glacier ascent and Class 3 at the top.

The route we will take is the standard Lyell Glacier route to the Lyell/Maclure Col. http://www.summitpost.org/route/155682/lyell-glacier.html Our goal is summiting by the easiest, most straight-forward route, which from most accounts this route seems to be the one for that. I'll put you down as tentatively interested, and a specific date will be established in a few months.

If you want more hikers, drop me a line when you pick a date. If I'm free, I'm down for a day, a weekend, and/or bonus peaks.
