Slept in a car on Independence Pass, went up Point 13500, then Twining, then UN 13545 and down to Independence Lake, trail to road and up the road back to Independence Pass.

With Megan Berry. Nice circuit: Geissler traverse (from Linkins Lake), then across to the divide at the Lost Man Loop pass, up 13,545' and on to Twining.
An early mountain I walked up even before I knew I had to climb mountains. No problem even for a neophyte. If you are at Independence Pass, just take an hour to wander over to this summit.

From Independence Pass
A moderately cloudy day but the clouds were puffy and the sun poked through every once in awhile. Easy hike up the snow free ridge and then a nice run down the west slopes on firm snow and was able to get back to my car right before it started raining. Feet got really wet in the swamps though!
On week-long trip to Sawatch with wife. Given forecast, we wanted a quicker one - so I tagged Pt 13,500 and Twining, and she just tagged Pt 13,500. (Haven't done Pt 13,545 yet.)

We hiked 13500 & Twining from Independence Pass. We shared the mountains with several skiers.

Summit Ski
Had a blast skinning out from Independence Pass, and skiing Blue Peak along with UN 13,545'. We started skinning at 6:30 from the Pass and arrived at the hairpin turn (on the Twin Lakes side) by noon.
PT 13500 and Twining via Independence Pass. Not only is the pass still open (11/4/12), but these peaks are essentially bone dry. You could probably climb both without ever stepping on snow, but the most direct route will have you pass over a few strips of 2" deep here and there.

Hiked up from the pass to Point 13500 then north to Twining (both summits). Admired the headwaters of the Roaring Fork and surrounding mountains. 25mph winds. Cut back straight to the pass from the col.

Great little afternoon hike. Hiked over 13,500 enroute. Awesome views back into Hunter Fryingpan.

Interesting area of the Sawatch
6/18/06 - Twining & UN 13500 make for a nice mellow, short hike from Independence Pass. A great choice if you've just exhauted yourself in the Elks the day before and are heading back to the front range.
1/9/19 - Went back for a winter ascent. Started at the Hwy 82 east wide winter closure which is about 8 miles below Independence Pass. The road had a snowmobile track under 4 inches of new snow, deeper in drifted areas. It passes under several large avy runs and wouldn't be a good idea in worse conditions. Climbed over UN 13,500 and then did an out and back ridge run to Twining.

South Ridge (Indy Pass)Again, in succession with Point 13,500 AFTER a loop of Igloo, Mountain Boy & Point 12,569 to the south. Long day but at least the weather held.
