East Ridge  Sucess!

The East Ridge is a very fine scramble with options ranging from class 2, on the south side of the ridge, to class 4 on the north side of the ridge. The crest of the ridge is mostly (or all) class 3, and can be followed without any need for detour. To access the ridge, start at the Hilton Lakes TH and when you get to the forest, you will see a climber's use trail split off toward the peak (left/west). Follow this use trail; it goes right to the base of the East Ridge. You can follow the ridge from here all the way to the top, or you can traverse around to the north side of the ridge's base and do some face climbing (class 3-4) to gain the ridge proper. This is the same face that has some (named) climbing routes, but there are ways to get up it without getting into class 5. Descend one of the sandy SE chutes.

East Chute Ski  Sucess!

Climbed east chute through avy debris; conditions became quite soft and wet and I felt forced to get on two rock croppings for some Class 4 action. No register found on summit. Pretty good ski down east chute on shattering glass.

From Patricia  Sucess!

The traverse from Patricia is a fine class-3 scramble on good rock. Sashayed down the ESE slope right towards Rock Creek Lake -- extremely sandy, which made for a quick and fun descent. (Do not even think about trying to climb up this way.)

The E ridge looked fun too.

Y Gullies  Sucess!

From pack station up the lookers right-most of the Y gullies. Skied the third gully from lookers right in nice powder conditions. Also went around the north side to ski Patricia Bowl, which had even better powder. Great May day!

East Face Chute  Sucess!

Quite varied terrain. The lower section is a mix of sand and gravel. This is followed by several piches of loose decomposed granite. The upper chute is mostly small talus and dusty debris from the upper cliff bands. (*sarcasm*)

Not a peak for the ambitious mountaineer. There are no bragging rights for bagging this guy. Just a quiet summit for someone who loves the mountains. Oh, but the swimming holes at the base of the peak are as sweet as any in the Sierra!

Half Moon Pass  Sucess!

Bonus peak for day 7 of the challenge. Went up half moon pass and took the class 3 ridge up to the plateau. Exited SW down sandy slopes to Golden Lake. Saw some big horn sheep on the plateau.

From Golden Lake  Sucess!

Hideous sand pile. On the other hand, the sand descent to Rock Creek was fun.
