West-SouthWest Ridge  Sucess!

This was a greated mixed climb up a steep ridge. We had great weather and long reaching views. From the top the views of the Breithorn, Castor and the Matterhorn are awe inspiring.

Route Climbed: Normal from Klein Matterhorn  Sucess!

We started at about 9 o'clock at Klein Matterhorn. About 12 o'clock we reached the summit of Pollux.

Beware, during the ascent we saw someone falling with some serious head injuries.

Nice, but easy rockclimbing

Pollux as preparation for the Matterhorn  Sucess!

Climbed with Nico and Drew as altitude preparation for the Matterhorn. Glorious day as we set off on the long traverse from the Klein Matterhorn. Decent scramble on the normal route; left our packs at the bottom of the snow ridge leading to the summit. Return traverse (on which we had to lose and then regain 3-400 metres) was long and tiring. The storm clouds, which had been building all the while over Cervinia, produced tremendous thunder and lightning as we returned. They finally delivered a spectacular hail storm just as we reached the last lift for the descent to Zermatt.

South east ridge  Sucess!

After a day of snowing we had to make a new trail from Keine Matterhorn to Zwillingsjoch. Going up the rocky south east ridge of Pollux was somewhat complicated due to lot of ice and traffic. We had some nice summit minutes before going down the same way. (July 25, 2000).

Wonderful weather, the first good weekend of the season.
We (Valerio, Daniele, Luigi, Alessandro, Sabrina)reached the top by the normal way form Rifugio Guide Ayas (very nice and confortable).
Very nice climbing, with a good mix of rock and glacer. Wonderful view from the top with quite unusual prospective to the Lyskamm and Monte Rosa.
Really enjoiable

Route Climbed: West face Date Climbed: June 20th 2005  Sucess!

After starting from the Klein Matterhorn and topping the Breithorn we continued our Monte Rosa Traverse to the direction of the Zwillinge.

We left our backpacks to the foot of the face and simul-soloed the West face which was in really good condition.

There was some ice in some parts but it was no more than a few meters at a time.

We descended by the normal route.

Route Climbed: Southwest Ridge Date Climbed: Apr 3, 2005  Sucess!

A few very steep parts of rock with fixed chains near the summit, otherwise easy scrambling. Lots of wind, especially on the summit ridge. Partner suffering from altitute nearly passes out while roped to me, nice. Done to and from the Rossi e Volanti Bivuack.

Route Climbed: From Schwarztor pass ( ski tour) Date Climbed: April 4, 2000  Sucess!

Pollux was my first combined ski/rock climbing tour. We took the long ski traverse from Klein Matterhorn and left our skis at Schwarztor before starting the rock climb. We had to break trail all the way up the mountain because it had snowed during the previous night.

My local guide from Zermatt, Tomi, had to practically pull me up on the tricky rock pitch with his belay rope because I did not have enough strength left in my arms to pull on the fixed chain. It was a very frustrating experience for both of us and I must commend Tomi for not giving up!

Our ski-descent from the Schwarztor pass [alt. 3731m] was absolutely awesome. We had more than 2100 vertical meters of fresh untracked powder snow to ourselves because there was no one else on the ski run. WOW !!!
