Porters below Tent Peak

Porters below Tent Peak

Porters carrying below Tent Peak, a short distance from Pangpema. October, 1998. We would not get far on our Himalayan treks without these guys.

On The Threshold

The pass leads into an enchanted land. The peak has just emerged from the depths... or so it seems. Great shot!

Re: On The Threshold

Thanks Brenta. Diemberger, in his book Spirits of the Air talks about an "enchanted" forest, not too far from here as the crow flies - the Barun Valley, I have been there. He recovered from illness there prior to a second and successful attempt on Makalu. "Enchanted" is a good word to describe these places, they are magical.

Wow. That's a really nice photo. It's one of those that makes you wish you where there as you sit behind the damn computor. You post some very nice photos.

Hi James. Glad you like the photo. That Tent Peak is also known as Kirat Chuli. I searched the web and also the Alpine Club's Himalayan Index, and came up with this:

The list of journal codes is here

The Alpine Club library, as well as CU and CDU should have those.

In any case, there is still a lot of exploratory climbing to do out there. Good luck!

Re: one of the many

PS. The should have been CSU not CDU. The columns in that list are: year, status (attampt, ascent), route (often blank), journal, year of publication, volume, issue (often blank), page. It is peak number 906 in their database.

Re: one of the many

PPS, ... and I did mean the American Alpine Club library in Golden, since you are in Colorado. They will have all those journals for sure.

Re: Surreal :o

Hi Kelly. Thanks for the comment. This location was an easy one to fire off some good snapshots!

I just uploaded a larger and improved scan. Regards, Nelson
