Provo Peak
6/18/2015 As part of a traverse from Shingle Mill Peak to Provo Peak, with Ben Stokes. Started up Dry Fork to Shingle Mill, traverse to Provo, with a descent down the North Ridge of Provo into Burnt Hollow and bushwhack down to the Squaw Peak road eventually getting back down to my truck at the Dry Fork TH. Pretty awesome day. The bushwhack down Burnt Hollow was pretty brutal.
9/20/2013 West Ridge approach. Short, steep, fun hike. Great views all around. Hiked it with my dad.

From Rock Canyon
Short little climb with enough elevation to keep you on your toes. Started from Rock Canyon TH to stretch the day out a little more. I followed the ATV trail a little too long (like a few before me, you'd think I'd have known better) and ended up on the north side of the ridge, bushwacking up the terracing. Finally worked my way over to the trail and had a lovely climb to the top.

It's not me, it's you.
Whatever you do, do not attempt a traverse across to East Provo Peak. Unless you really like loose shale, you have a lot of time to kill, you hate fun, and you have a death wish. Gorgeous views from the summit of Provo Peak, though! It's the perfect vantage point from which to admire far lovelier Wasatch peaks. (I'm looking at you, Nebo!)
I was trying to complete 7 peaks, I did only 5 and this was the last and easier. Fun still...

Long road-walk
Walked the road from the gate, then went up the NW ridge and down the W ridge. The snow was nice and hard -- almost too hard for my Kahtoolas. Mini-trip report.

Beautiful Crisp Afternoon
My brother in law just got home from a mission and the other four of us wanted to take him on a hike to celebrate. We were going to go up Timpanogos but found out that the trailhead we were going to use was closed so we decided to hit up Provo Peak instead.
We didn't get to the trailhead until almost 2:30 pm. It took a little driving on the dirt road to make sure we were in the right spot. Once we were sure, off we went. We passed a group of hikers on the way down that said they started at about 8:00 am and reached the summit at noon. At that pace we figured it would be dark by the time we got to the car. Luckily for us we went considerably faster then that and reached the summit in about 2 hours 15 minutes or so. It was starting to rain and dark clouds were moving in from over Utah lake so we didn't get to stay on the summit as long as we wanted but it was a great day and a fun hike. A couple of us made the return trip to the car in just over an hour and waited another hour or so for the rest of them. Great hike, although it was a little steep in parts.
Make sure to look out for the yellow caution tape and take the small trail to the right rather then continuing on the ATV trail. There is also an arrow made of rocks pointing the way to go. Pay attention so you do not have to backtrack.

Windy/Cold Provo Peak
This is my second time hiking this peak. It appeared to be a nice day but it got windier and colder the higher we went. We had thought to head over to East Provo Peak but I was too nervous as we started down. It felt like I was gonna blow off the side of the mountain and I couldn't feel my fingers anymore. It was a good hike once I warmed up.

WINDY! on the way to East Peak
Went to the top with Brita...took about an hour and 20 minutes. It was ridiculously cold and windy on the summit. We wanted to go to East Provo Peak but it was so windy that it became dangerous and so cold that it was a problem so we turned back. We ran pretty much the whole way down and drove back down Hobble Creek Canyon (we came up from Provo Canyon).

Breakin trail from Rock Canyon
Broke trail in upside-down snow from the campground on. Got pretty bad on the lover parts of the west ridge, but mellowed into wind slabs and wind swept rock higher up on the ridge. Looong day that dashed our hopes of also tagging East Provo Peak. Gorgious views.

Nice and Easy from the camelback road
Went up this mountain with my buddy Jason and puppy Roxie. Driving the camel back road is very pretty especially during the fall.
I tired to climb Provo Peak twice when I was 18, and failed both times because we got off route and couldn't navigate very well. The second attempt was in the winter and was my first true mountaineering experience. We cut a tent platform into a steep snow slope and staked the tiny tent down with ice axes and snowshoes. Someday I would like to go back and actually get to the summit.

Don't go down the North Ridge
Ran all the way up from the Rock Canyon trailhead...it's a long haul. We decided we wanted to see the Cirque (which was AWESOME!) but coming down the North Ridge was a bit hairy and bushwacking through thick briars took FOREVER to get down. Awesome day though.
