Muddin'  Sucess!

A wet and muddy climb to beautiful views. Summit was roped off for a search and rescue, so no interior views to the canyon, but glad to reach the top regardless. Kaua'i is gorgeous!

Lucky day  Sucess!

Hit this on the way to Kilohana. Weather was pretty fine! Still remember the mud, though.

Pu'u Pihea There  Sucess!

A fun and very scenic hike, worth the long drive up Waimea Canyon Drive. I also enjoyed some post hike beer at Koke'e Lodge.

Muddy fun!  Sucess!

Stopped by the Kauai Humane Society to pick up a field trip dog and then continued through the canyon to the end of the road/trailhead. Although the trail in some parts was very muddy, the day was actually quite nice and we had a great time. However, we were both filthy muddy when we finished and I was a bit embarrassed returning Archie to the KHS in such a state. They were understanding though and glad he had a great hike!

Cracking  Sucess!

Had great weather so trail dry as. Views were excellent throughout. Continued onwards through the swamp.

Pihea  Sucess!

It was extremely muddy when I did this hike. I had to use both hands to pull myself up the last 1/10 of a mile to keep from slipping. The viewpoints along the trail are actually better than the summit itself. It is a great hike.

Up and down before dark

We started way late in the day but what can i say ...on vacation. Made it to the slick rock outcropping at top of the initial ridge @2000'. Soft front pointing and paradise views on an ideal ridge climb.

class three mud bath  Sucess!

I'm laughing as I write this because as silly as it sounds, I could not have made it to the summit without the use of my hands; my wife an I were up to our ankles in muck and had to scale at least two active streams to get to the top; there are lots of tree roots you can grab on. If you like wet mud and outstanding views, this hike is for you; don't bring boots, bring Teva's. Watch out for the overhanging soggy precipice beneath the summit; it looks like it could go any day now and it's probably a 500ft vertical drop, bounce, bounce, etc.

Does this count?  Sucess!

Ok, so does an in utero climb count here on SP? I'm still learning how things work...

Mommy did a great job of taking me up to the summit of Pihea, but I still made her kind of tired. I wonder when they're going to take me back there to climb it on my own?

Well, I guess I should worry about the whole walking & talking things first...

An afternoon stroll...  Sucess!

My wife, Carol, and I hiked out to the summit of Pihea to enjoy the beauty of this high area on Kauai. The baby kept getting tired, though...
