Route Climbed: from Lyons Creek Trailhead Date Climbed: June 6th, 2004
I thought I could make this trip in one afternoon from the Lyons Creek Trailhead, but I was still a few hundred yards short of the summit at turnaround time. I got back to the truck at 9:00pm, just as the last glimmers of daylight disappeared. Anyway, it was a beautiful clear day, and the trailhead parking lot was already full by the time I arrived. The Lyons Creek trail is an easy 4.6-mile walk up to Lake Sylvia. Lyons Creek is never too far from the trail, and the gentle roar of the spring runoff provided the perfect background music. The last half-mile or so below Lake Sylvia was an obstacle course of swampy ground, snowdrifts, and tricky creek crossings. Lake Sylvia was beautiful, with ice still floating on the surface.
Route Climbed: Rocky Canyon/SE Ridge Date Climbed: January 7, 1987
A mild winter ascent! Stashed snowshoes at tree-line. Hiked hard pack on up to the summit. We carried plastic garbage bags up and, on the way down, climbed in for some wicked descending fun (more like "death burritos"). Clear winter days make for incredible vistas.
Great spring day. Snow level about 2/3 up route. Only challenge was doing this late on a sunny day and then trying to cross Rocky Creek while stayting dry.
Route Climbed: Horsetail Falls to North Face Date Climbed: June 14, 2003
Some late season skiing above Pyramid Lake (in the bowl between Pyramid and Aaron's - Pk 9,686'). We scrambled up the talus blocks above snowline on the north face to the summit. Click here for trip report and photos.
Route Climbed: West Ridge from Lake Sylvia Date Climbed: August 1992
My first summit in the Tahoe area, shortly after I moved to the Bay Area to start law school. Needless to say, I got hooked on bagging peaks in northern california :-)
Route Climbed: Rocky Canyon Date Climbed: May 18, 2003; Apr 17, 2004
There must have been close to a dozen people up on the summit when I was up there the first time--snowshoers, skiers, snowboarders... The next time, I climbed the peak amidst low cloud cover and snow showers, with about 50ft of visibility at the summit. There was no one else up there that time.
Route Climbed: Horsetail Falls/ East Face Couloir Date Climbed: Several times between 82 & 84
This was my first mountain I ever climbed! We climbed it many times in between 82 & 84, always using the Horsetail Falls/ East Couloir route from Twin Bridges. I guess we always used this route because it was short & challenging to us at the time.
Route Climbed: Rocky Canyon Date Climbed: July, 2001
This was my third trip up Pyramid. An otherwise perfect day slightly marred when I caught some ass@#$% trying to steal my hiking poles where I had stashed them at the base of the talus slopes. I first climbed it when I was 17.
Route Climbed: Lake Aloha side Date Climbed: June 1988
This was my 1st mountain peak, looking back on it now, it was cake! Nice view at the top, can see Lake Tahoe. It has a warm place in my heart, since it was my 1st.
