Lyons Creek TH  Sucess!

Came up from the Lyons Creek TH but broke off cross country just after entering the wilderness. Nice scramble up.

Pyramid Peak  Sucess!

Started our hike up HorseTail Falls at 0615. The falls were incredible. Then scrambled our way up to Pyramid Peak. We reached the summit around 1100. Smoke made our visibility poor. Spent about an hour at the summit, then headed out.

Rocky Canyon  Sucess!

Got off to a rough start, but it was a great hike overall. The route map I had showed the trail head on the west side of the creek. Spent a half-hour bouldering in the creek before I finally came across the trail on the east side. The meadows along the creek are beautiful and view from the top is awesome.

Climbed it on a whim  Sucess!

If you dont mind some off-trail scrambling and bushwacking... this signature peak is one to remember, you can see it from everywhere, and it's quite a rewarding climb

Route Climbed: West Ridge from Lake Sylvia  Sucess!

Great day! Very mellow and pretty hike to Lake Sylvia. Wild flowers and butterflies galore. Not a bad little scramble from the lake to the summit. Gorgeous views all around from the summit. Lake Aloha is especially lovely. Can see some charred hilltop toward Fallen Leaf Lake from the Angora Fire (started June 24, 2007).

Rocky Canyon route  Sucess!

Hiked this route with Made in Tahoe. In spite of the 4000-foot elevation gain I didn't find this route to be as hard as I expected. This canyon is a botanical wonder, and the weather was in the low seventies and it was breezy. In fact, the wind was so strong on the final talus ridge that it was hard to stand up. The wind was so loud I wished I'd had ear plugs. My back actually started to hurt from bracing muscularly against the wind. But it was calm on the summit and the marmots were ravenous (no, I didn't feed them). What a view! I'll be back up there soon!

Route Climbed: Rocky Canyon  Sucess!

Easy to follow trail up to the peak, easy 1/2 day hike. 2.5 hrs from base to summit. Last day before the snow falls. Reno Hangover crew!

Route Climbed: Rocky Canyon  Sucess!

Didn't expect so many people up there this late in the season. This was probably my last chance for a trip before the snow sets in and I'd been wanting to go up Pyramid for a while. It was quite windy early in the day, though the wind decreased drastically shortly after I hit the summit. Definitely a brutal elevation gain, but this "use trail" was better than a lot of "official trails".

Rocky Canyon Route  Sucess!

This was my 7X up this steep mountain. Perfect day with virtually no wind at the top. Excellent views in every direction.

Pyramid Finally  Sucess!

This peak was teasing me, as I could see it from my workplace as a snowboard instructor at Sierra every day. Finally, I got some people who knew the trail and wanted to ride. The top of this hill is a great descent on a snowboard, with a lot of snow there is everywhere to go!!

Via Lyons Creek - My first Class 2!  Sucess!

My first class 2 - it made me feel like a little billy goat... y'know if billy goats spent time hugging rocks and looking generally shaky and unstable ;)

West Ridge  Sucess!

Dayhike from Lyons Creek trailhead. I somehow missed the saddle and accidentally climbed the "peaklet" that rises above Lake Sylvia. I returned via the saddle. Although the detour wasted time, this route was considerably more fun than the loose slog from the saddle.

E. Ridge  Sucess!

Approached through Horsetail Falls and climbed East Ridge with little brother. Didn't expect substantial snow still on the mountain, but was welcome. Downclimbed the South Slope because we didn't have ice axes to glisade down the north slope snow fields. To the couple with the dog....Thanks for the chocolate.

Climbed the SE ridge via Rocky Canyon. Awesome views up top on a clear day. The elevation gain over such a short distance was tough.
