Joshua Come Back Home to the Mountains
I spent the night at Hidden Valley CG. No water or garbage but very nice. Hiked from the east. Only saw one person all day and he was in camo with a spotting scope watching me from a draw.

Quail and Minerva Hoyt from Quail Springs
Perfect cool weather for a ~10 mile hike roundtrip from Quail Springs picnic area to Mt. Minerva Hoyt (which oddly is not listed here), and Quail Mountain in JTNP during the MLK holiday weekend.
It was a Provisional trip for aspiring I-rated leader Peter Johnston, who led a group of about 13 hikers on a route that included a stop at the Lang Mine.
Overall a great day.

70 Peaks In 30 Days
This was part of a month long solo peakbagging trip in which I hiked every day, and got 70 peaks in 30 days. Quail is the most boring mountain I have done in Joshua Tree and one of my least favorites from this trip.

Wonderful wintery hike
Penelope Smrz and I hiked up the Quail Mountain from Ryan Campground. A wonderful hike on our day off from climbing at J Tree. 16 miles RT. Good hike, beautiful wintery day.

From Juniper Flats via CA Riding and Hiking Trail
Been wanting to get this national park highpoint for a while, but didn't get around to it until now. Took a day trip to Joshua Tree and hit Quail first. Enjoyed the long walk through the desert, then a short steep scramble to the top. Good views of Jacinto and Gorgonio, as well as the surrounding area. Continued to Queen after completing the Quail hike.
2010 - solo, from Upper Covington Flats as a dayhike. Bagged a couple other nearby peaks. Got snowed on all day, in late April. My first time ever to So Cal and I get snowed on... how does that happen?

Doing the 5ers
Hiked from Ryan Campground via the California Riding and Hiking Trail, headed cross country for the peak just past mile marker 23. Wasn't sure which peak was the summit but guessed the one on the right so went up the gully for awhile and then onto the ridge, where I finally found a very faint use path. Found the summit register can but no register inside. Also went and checked out the NW peak and that was lower, then went over to the W peak to make sure that was lower and from there saw the trail coming up the wash. Went down to the start of the old jeep trail in the wash, took that to the CRHT which was about 5 minutes west of where I had left it on the way up. A little longer but easier hiking. Distance down includes hiking around on top.

Quail Mountain
Hiked to Quail Mountain from Juniper Flats and ascended the south ridge. The weather was nice thanks to a cold front where temperatures would usually be hot during this time.

Slept near the top
Overnight backpack trip from Upper Covington Flats. Slept in the saddle south of the peak. Saw one bighorn, two deer, and heard coyotes at night. Nice hike with great views!
