East Slopes  Sucess!

CMC snowshoe trip. A bunch of guys were preparing for Orizaba and other Mexican peaks. We had some light snow, high winds above treeline, with whiteout conditions at times. My goggles froze up near the summit, so it was nearly impossible to see. We spent about one minute (literally) on the summit, then we headed on down.

Quandary  Sucess!

November 2 2013

Kessler, Shaylee, Kimberly, and I climbed 14,270' Quandary Peak on Saturday with some 14ers.com members. We got a later start than most of the rest of the group.

Quandary Peak was much more difficult in November than it is in summer! The temperature was 11F degrees on top, but with the strong winds, the windchill was way below zero. It was a good and challenging day.

February 24 2006

Climbed with SP member Blakej, and another person joined us as well. For me: Five hours up and two down, though the other two were faster and waited on the summit for 20 minutes for me.

Unfortunatly some time was lost because I decided to leave my snowshoes in the car because the trail looked packed. Don't make the same mistake.

Fall  Sucess!

climbed it in the fall of 2010. Saw a lot of goats and I thought the memorial on top was a pretty nice way to send a friend off.

Summit Ski  Sucess!

Got a summit ski of Quandary's standard East Ridge route. Snow was fresh and continuous all the way back to the winter parking.

4th of July hike  Sucess!

Great hike except for the hundreds of people clogging the trail. Do this peak on a weekday. Saw a lot of Mountain Goats, and also not many clouds in the sky. This provided an excellent view.

Smooth

Trail is exceptionally well maintained. It was almost as if someone used a wisk broom to brush any pebbles off of the well-placed stone steps (each step was nicely placed 7" above the other). Good peak to bring a first time mountain enthusiast.

Whiteout

Winter ascent in blizzard conditions. -15F with 40mph sustained winds. Climbed to 14,000ft and turned around because there was no view. Buddy got some minor frostbite on his nose. Glissading down was fun.

Cristo Coulior...Beware of Goats  Sucess!

Started ~430 after sleeping in the back of our Subaru due to the lack of camping locations around Breckenridge. A herd of goats surrounded the car and entertained us for about an hour before falling asleep. Cristo was in nearly top to bottom with a short 20 yard rock band above the steepest section that was melted out and a couple spots near the very bottom that were melted out as well.Made it back to the car and noticed scratches on the hood of my car. Didnt remember driving through trees recently and then I found a card under that windshield that said that the climbers behind us (whom we glissaded by) had seen 5 goats surrounding and climbing on top of my car! They even had piuctures that they emailed us later. Rediculous!

East Ridge Conditioning  Sucess!

Quandary Peak is an easily accessible year-round 14er that is just outside the town of Breckenridge. We started late in the day around 1pm and busted through soft snow to get to the summit around 5pm. Rather windy and low vis but just made the routine breaks in the clouds even better!

Another "spring" 14er  Sucess!

Climbed with EricD. Frozen faces on the summit made it difficult to smile, but we could only see one another when 5 feet or closer. White-out conditions hid the view, but definitely made postholing not as bad. Tons of snow entire way from winter TH to summit. 12:45 start at TH, back to car by 6:30.
