East Ridge
Second 14er in two days (did Bierstadt the day before). The weather was awesome - there were none of the usual afternoon thunderstorms even though the clouds looked a little threatening on the descent. Summit was a little crowded for a weekday and we could've done without all the folks yapping on their cellphones.

First 14er!
This was my first 14er! I arrived at Colorado a few days earlier with a few friends to do some climbing. Our ulimate goal was to climb Mt. Elbert which we did. In order to prepare for Elbert we wanted to get acclimated to the altitude. To do this we stayed at high altitudes and visited Mt. Evans. We also did some small hikes at elevation. We decided to climb on Quandary Peak with the extent of the hike dependant on how we felt. We started early and maintained a good pace. We all felt good and decided to continue the climb. It was pretty strenuous but the views of the surrounding mountains and the wildlife were awesome. We trudged on and summited. Not a whole lot of people at the top but everyone we meet was very friendly. We stayed at the top a bit and headed back down. It was a wonderul day.

up West Ridge, down Cristo Couloir
The west ridge approach was stunningly beautiful, and still frozen, while the upper ridge was surprisingly alpine and enjoyable. The cristo descent was short and fast.

Mountain Goats!
Climbed the main route to summit w/ my friend Bill. Bill led the whole way. Beautiful day on the summit and my 1st 14'er! Saw 3 mountain goats that just hung out w/ us as we neared the summit. Summited from trailhead in 2 hours 45 minutes ... about 1 hour 30 minutes down. Started way too late in the day ... but fortunately was blessed w/ great weather/temps.

East Ridge
This was a nice introduction to the rest of 14ers in Colorado after climbing the two most popular 14ers, Longs and Pikes Peaks.

Incredible day hike
Incredible hike, little testing though since I ran out of water halfway through because of leaky water bladder but managed to pull it off. My 2nd 14'er solo. Wind gusting over 50+ mph at the summit with a brief ice rain then clearing up for a great day. Few mountain goat sightings.

Friggin' whiteout!
Climbed the east ridge with three friends. Weather was a little dicey, but we decided to go for it. Really high winds, snow, hail...good thing we new where we were going! Still had a blast - but won't climb in conditions like that again!

Quandary Peak
My first 14er ever, thought I was going to have a heart attack, cried at the top!
We intended to climb a peak on the morning of my nephew's wedding. We just didn't realize that we would have over a foot of snow and whiteout conditions. Still, wouldn't change a thing.
Well, one thing, maybe. On 9/10/01, as I was going through security at Denver airport, I pitied the baggage checkers who getting yelled at by irate, hurried passengers. My, how perspective would change in 15 hours.

I forget the exact date. The final stretch to the summit was a solid sheet of ice covered with a foot of powder snow.

Hiked the east ridge before the first big snow of the year. Great climb, but very short.

Not the skier I thought I was
Skinned up to the long flat portion of the ridge, realized that I'm more of a mountaineer than a backcountry skier, and promptly cached my skis and climbed to the top. I definitely preferred postholing straight down versus carving turns (which my brother was happily doing with the "Quandray Dog" snapping at his heels the whole way down.) Great time overall (despite crappy weather) for my first Colorado 14er!

Quandary Ski Decent
Climbed and skied the East ridge of Quandary March 12. Conditions were hard windpacked sastrugi up high and frozen slushy snow down lower. Conditions may have changed as weather was blowing in.

East Ridge Ski
Skinned up the East ridge under clear and windless skies. Skied the standard East ridge down, only booted a short section on the flat ridge due to rocks. Good coverage top to bottom, snow was windpacked up high and sticky sunbaked powder below.
