Rankin Ridge With the Doggles
Terri & I hiked Rankin Ridge With the Doggles. Nice trail. Met a Family from Colorado that was hiking the ridge as well. Great view of the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands to the east from the summit. Also could climb (partially), the fire tower at the summit.
One day I will visit this old friend and my legs will only be able to handle the service road... that is if no buffalo are playing sentry along the route. Even then, my memories from the view at the top are fantastic - of elk herds frolicking below - and the nature trail with it's seasonal flora and fauna. Truly, A blue ribbon Black Hills trail!

Goal number 2 of weekend accomplished, after Harney Peak drove here did the loop hike prior to touring the cave. Pretty little hike easy and fun.

Fun short hike, great views
Well signed, nice parking lot, easy to get to the lookout tower on the summit. Hooray for National Park Highpoint #8 for me!

Hiked to this highpoint in light rain before taking a tour of the nearby Wind Cave.

First time to visit a steel fire tower
This was an easy and scenic hike. But, what made it unusual was the game biologist at the summit that invited my wife and I to check out the fire tower. First time I have ever been up in a steel tower (been up in several stone fire towers).

Climbed many timesI've hiked up Rankin Ridge many times as I used to be a seasonal park ranger at Wind Cave National Park.
