Rappeling down

Rappeling down

Mark rappeling down the South-face of the Graue Wand, after climbing the classic Niedermann. The rappeling is very comfortable, because of the special built rappelroute. Uri Alps Group - August 2009

once ...

in the early '80 we had to go down along the E ridge, 1 rappel to get a channel then a complicated descend to get the last slabs over the snow and make the last rappel ...

Re: once ...

I think those days climbing was definitly more challenging. Due to the re-bolting and plaisir climbing, a lot of classic's lost there character. Good for people who want more safety while climbing. Only a shame that it has getting a bit out of hand.

Thanks for your useful picture and votes!

Re: once ...

yes ... routefinding was a very important part of the climb, we didn't have a brilliant track made of shining bolts, while climbing we used to say "its ok, I found a piton" ... but they were very few ...
maybe now the amusement is bigger but maybe some of the "adventure" has been lost
I'm sorry I can no more try to see the difference
