Rattlesnake Prey

Rattlesnake Prey

A timber rattlesnake enjoys a grey squirrel. Photo taken along a trail in Sweetwater State Park in northern Georgia. The snake already had the squirrel when we came upon it. Timber rattlesnakes and copperheads are the only poisonous snakes you are likely to encounter in the Southern Appalachians.

Re: Wow

I have seen plenty of rattlesnakes while hiking, but had never seen anything like this. I was very lucky to have a camera with me that day.

Re: amazing photo...

It was neat to see. Just down the trail, we came upon a copperhead snake that was in the trail. Makes for nervous hiking as every stick or root starts looking like snake.
