name and maps

thank for this valuable submission. I will contribute some pictures.
Some additions:
the correct german name for the peak is not "Rauhkofel" but "Rauchkofel" (Rauch is german for smoke, your explanations are right!)
The best maps to buy are are
- Tabacco 1:25000 Nr. 035 Valle Aurina / Ahrntal, available in every shop in the area
- Alpenvereinskarte 1:25000 Nr. 35/3 Zillertaler Alpen Ost, can be ordered at DAV-Shop

Re: name and maps

Thanks for your comments, I'm going to update the page. I suppose Rauhkofel is also an official name of the peak - I suppose in the local dialect. This is how it is printed on the map of Mapgraphic Edition Bozen. I will mention both name versions, OK?

Re: name and maps

Yes of course it is okay - and you are right: also the Tabacco map I mentioned has the german name as "Rauhkofel". Strange - I never noticed that. But all german literature (beginning with the basis "Die Erschliessung der Ostalpen of 1894) names "Rauchkofel"

Re: name and maps

The Italian name is "Monte Fumo" where "fumo" means "rauch"

Good page

Lots of useful information. As for the name of the range I would either call it Zillertal Alps or Zillertaler Alpen - you have to decide for one language ;-)

Re: Good page

Thanks for your comment. Now I decided on the German name, in order to balance the not so much original pair of Italian name. And I created the links to the page of Zillertal Alps and that of Hochfeiler

Do you have any idea how to get there by public transportation?

Re: great page

Thanks for your comment. There is no train in Ahrntal, so at least in the last section of the trip to Prettau you have to go with bus. Now I uploaded the on-line time table onto the Rauchkofel-site, and I send it to you, too: http://www.sii.bz.it/en/benvenuti.php. Perhaps you plan to travel from that distance to Italy? OK, this hill is not bad, you really have to come! ;-)
