Recovering After a Serious Accident

Recovering After a Serious Accident

Taken by Gimpilator on August 27th, 2014 on my third day of being in the hospital. I had a serious mountain climbing accident that I'm very glad I survived. Right now I'm at home finally allowed to use 1 1/2 hands to type. It's very likely that it will be a year before I am allowed to climb again. While it's sad in a sense, I had an amazing summer and am taking it well. I'll miss running and the physical difficulties I pushed myself through. But some day I will return to my realms of adventure. For now I have much writing to do.

Dying to know...

what happened, but for now I'm happy to see that defiant smile.
Keep up the spirit, it's worth more than a thousand summits.

All the best and you'll be back before you know it.

Re: Dying to know...

Thanks Marc, it takes a lot to snag a smile off my face. Things gotta be pretty bad for that to fade.

Anyways, I hope to write the story in a week or so.

PM

I received your PM where you said you had some kind of accident, but I didn't realize it was so serious... I wish you all the best and a quick recovery!
Cheers!

Re: PM

Thanks Lodewijk. I was replying to an elf message and was giving a quick reason for the response delay (other elves have been busy too). I plan on posting the story hopefully within the next week.

Re: Accident!

Surgery may put me a ways back, I am however hoping to get into hiking within a few months. I already dreamed about it. Typing will be rough soon once I am down to only a single finger for a while. Anyways thanks Afzal.

Bummer

Josh, so sorry to hear of your accident and I too wish you a speedy recovery. I'm glad to see you are still able to smile about it. Thanks for all you do at summitpost as well.

Re: Bummer

Thanks Dean. I've got a lot of work to do with trip reports, pages, and SummitPost itself. Once I recover enough to use both hands (perhaps a month) I plan on going full on with that. Because of my situation and economics I'll have a lot of free time on my hands during Fall.

Dang!

That looks rough Josh! Hey, sometimes these things are a blessing in disguise. I'm sure you learned a thing or two from the experience. Rest and heal up. I'm so glad it wasn't worse! Take care!

Josh!

Your smile tells me that you - after all - are taking it well! And during the sad moments, think to "your" wonderful Alpamayo!
All my best wishes, Silvia

Re: Josh!

Thanks Silvia, indeed I think about Alpamayo a lot. It was such an incredible experience.

Re: Best Wishes

Thanks CT. The head injury is lasting longer than expected but at least I'm still making recovery.
