Golden Canyon peak bagging
Hiked up Golden Canyon with a detour to Manly Beacon. Continued to the Zabriskie Point TH and followed the well-worn trail up Red Cathedral. Hiked back to my car via Gower Gulch. I started early and the off-trail excursions allowed me to enjoy relative solitude for most of the six hours I spent in this very popular area. What an incredible day!

Cathedral quicky
Had 1 hour to spare before leaving the area. Nice breezy ridge hike.

Red Cathedral
Red Cathedral was a nice ridge hike. Few people travel up the mountain compared to the hundreds at the parking lot.

Back Up
Went up at dawn, passed some photographers about halfway along and then saw not another person until I was almost back at the the trailhead. With a digital camera this time, I didn't have the problem of running out of film before the summit that I had last time.

Via Use Trail
Very short hike, but scenic. Much more pleasant up there than at Zabriskie Point. The paved overlook at Zabriskie Point kind of ruins that spot for me.
We did some wandering in the area afterwards including Golden Canyon - Gower Gulch loop.

Great view to watch the sunset!Hike this just before dusk. Provides a great overlook to see the sun set over the valley.
