Hazy day  Sucess!

We cut from the PCT after about 1/8th of a mile and headed straight for the ridge. It took just over an hour to get to the summit. The class 3 up to the summit wasn't too bad. The views were pretty nice, but it was a really hazy day. No snow on the ridge. Only small patches left in small pockets. No snow on the summit.

Perfect winter overnighter  Sucess!

Couldn't have asked for better winter ascent conditions. Temps in the upper 40s and very little wind until evening. Climbed the Southwest Ridge from the Hwy 88 Snowpark parking lot. Spent the night near the summit and traversed to Stevens Peak the following day. Amazing panoramic views!

A very pleasant hike! Snowshoe'd most of the way up w/ Dave K., Samantha, Mike and Etsuko. We left our snowshoes behind below the false summit. The last Class 3 section was enjoyable and not as loose as I expected. Incredible weather and views! What a great way to start the winter season.

From Carson Pass I headed up the slope and right for the Summit. No snow so it seemed like Summer.

Nice climb on an extremely windy day. I arrived just before sunrise. It looked like a storm was going to hit, but the skies cleared up after a few hours.

Route Climbed: SW Ridge Date Climbed: June 23, 2005  Sucess!

Followed trail to the saddle with pond, then started cross country. There was one small broken up snowfield just above the pond. There was another larger snowfield in the first gully. There was final larger snowfield in the 2nd gully. This one stretched several hundred feet wide by 500 feet long, almost to the saddle on the SW Ridge. From there I followed one of the trails up to the summit ridge and eventually to the summit itself. The wind was blowing, so there was a great 360 view.

3 of us (Ajay, Akshay and me) climbed up and skied down. Ajay summitted up the true summit, while Milind climbed up the northernmost crag. All 3 of us skied down from the north ridge, down the NW facing slopes down to crater lake. We packed our skis from there, walking back down via the dirt road that comes up to crater lake, to our car parked at that spot earlier that morning. Parking the car at this spot 4.9 miles from Carson pass allowed us

much better skiing on the norther slopes. A great day of skiing. Who says it's time to hang up those skis for summer ?

Great snowshoe climb from Carson Pass on a great day to be in the backcountry. Met several skiers making turns off RLP - something else to take up in the future.

Route Climbed: East Ridge Date Climbed: April 26, 2005  Sucess!

Booted up on a long lunch (the kind where you don't bother to go back to work!) from Hope Valley. I was just going to get 1000 feet of elevation gain for a workout and a few turns, but I ended up going uphill until I summited.

Near the top, I talked to some snowboarders who had staged a car in Hope Valley and then driven up to Carson Pass. I got the distinct impression that they thought I was nuts for walking up from Hope Valley.

Anyway, I had a great ski down and was back in Markleeville in time to pick up my wife when she got off work at 5.
