Various dayhikes, all from Carson pass. First on 10/24/2005, second on 4/24/2005.
Long day hike with Kane. Interesting hand scramble at the top. Wonderful views of Round Top and Mokelumne Wilderness. Went on to bag Stevens Peak before returning through Meiss Meadow via the PCT.
Nice view of the Carson Pass area.
did the approach from the road up the southeast ridge and skied down past crater lake. perfect powder and off by 11am so no motorsleds to bother with.
Couldn't have asked for better winter ascent conditions. Temps in the upper 40s and very little wind until evening. Climbed the Southwest Ridge from the Hwy 88 Snowpark parking lot. Spent the night near the summit and traversed to Stevens Peak the following day. Amazing panoramic views!
First peak of the new year. Perfect weather conditions. Good meal at the Kirkwood Inn after.
Really, this was a perfect day rambling in the mountains with Misha, Mike, Etsuko and Samantha!
A very pleasant hike! Snowshoe'd most of the way up w/ Dave K., Samantha, Mike and Etsuko. We left our snowshoes behind below the false summit. The last Class 3 section was enjoyable and not as loose as I expected. Incredible weather and views! What a great way to start the winter season.
From Carson Pass I headed up the slope and right for the Summit. No snow so it seemed like Summer.
Great training hike. Went on a clear day, several feet of snow, some beautiful cornices, great views all around.
Nice climb on an extremely windy day. I arrived just before sunrise. It looked like a storm was going to hit, but the skies cleared up after a few hours.
Followed trail to the saddle with pond, then started cross country. There was one small broken up snowfield just above the pond. There was another larger snowfield in the first gully. There was final larger snowfield in the 2nd gully. This one stretched several hundred feet wide by 500 feet long, almost to the saddle on the SW Ridge. From there I followed one of the trails up to the summit ridge and eventually to the summit itself. The wind was blowing, so there was a great 360 view.
3 of us (Ajay, Akshay and me) climbed up and skied down. Ajay summitted up the true summit, while Milind climbed up the northernmost crag. All 3 of us skied down from the north ridge, down the NW facing slopes down to crater lake. We packed our skis from there, walking back down via the dirt road that comes up to crater lake, to our car parked at that spot earlier that morning. Parking the car at this spot 4.9 miles from Carson pass allowed us
much better skiing on the norther slopes. A great day of skiing. Who says it's time to hang up those skis for summer ?
Great snowshoe climb from Carson Pass on a great day to be in the backcountry. Met several skiers making turns off RLP - something else to take up in the future.
Booted up on a long lunch (the kind where you don't bother to go back to work!) from Hope Valley. I was just going to get 1000 feet of elevation gain for a workout and a few turns, but I ended up going uphill until I summited.
Near the top, I talked to some snowboarders who had staged a car in Hope Valley and then driven up to Carson Pass. I got the distinct impression that they thought I was nuts for walking up from Hope Valley.
Anyway, I had a great ski down and was back in Markleeville in time to pick up my wife when she got off work at 5.
Summitted with rgreene after a late start. Ditched the snowshoes on the lower ridge just above the snowpark as the snow was windblown and firm. To add some excitement, we scrambled up the Class 3 section just above the lower ridge and below the saddle. Made the summit in 2 hours and nearly got blown off the peak by the 50 mph+ winds. Great 360 deg views from the summit. Highly recommended peak!
Summitted with blmcclain. Passed Eric L and bros on their way down - Brian and I took a fun class 3 rock variant between the snow chutes to the summit. 3.5 hour roundtrip including too much time on the deadly cold windy summit!
I climbed this peak with my bros Ryan and Abi. We climbed up a chute on the south side of the peak. It was windy as hell but also a lot of fun. To reach the summit we did some mixed climbing.
Nice 2.5 hour hike in a fine company of Vendulka, Kris and Shannon. Windy as hell.
Climbed with Johnny, Steve, and Jan - Snowshoed up the SW ridge and skied off the west face. The summit crags were made exciting by partial snow cover. The snow was a bit heavy but the descent was still a blast.
