Lots of great sandstone fun, routes were easy to find and were also well marked with engraved coins to mark grade. All in all a great time and will be back the first chance I get.
The Grand Canyon of the East! Grew up near here.
I took a fun climbing trip here in Nov 2011. Good times and good vibes.
Week-long trip to the Red, phenomenal climbing. However, after 6 days of intense, all-day climbing, my pads are bloody pulp!
8 hrs from Detroit, practically lived there on weekends in the summers to keep from going crazy in the city.
Love this area. Went to it a few times in college.
Lots and lots of fun stuff out here. Make a weekend of it (or more).
A great place to hike, unexpectedly wild in some places (Whittleton Creek and Arch), unexpectedly airy in others (Sky Arch, Chimney Tops).
My wife and I climbed there for a week in 2006. It was awesome. This is my favouite climbing area I've ever been to. The climbing was fantasic, and the people even better.
If you can keep your hands dry
I started climbing here in 1987. I live nearby, and call it home. Now considered an old school local. I will always come back one more time than I leave.
This is where I cut my teeth before moving west. I hiked every trail and bushwhacked every cliff I could find. I probably did too many things without a rope, but I survived. If you live within 3-4 hours, get here on your next day off. You won't regret it.
Miguel's, Ale-8, Steep Sandstone, Pockets, what more could you ask for?
Been here many times to sport climb and camp. Try to make it here at least once a year.
Usually hit the Gorge several times a year. Great hiking!
My wife Julie went to U.K. and took me there to scramble around courthouse rock and haystack.
Great climbing area. Love camping and eating at Miguels. Make at least one trip a year there. Most recently checked out the Muir Valley area...very nice climbing. Can't wait to get back there.
Does the Red really count as a summit? Nice place and all, but not really a mountain. Climbed there three different times on various moderate trad and sport routes. Save an Ale 8 for me...
One of the top crags in the U.S. Miles of Sandstone
