Goat Trail Traverse

Hiking along the notorious "Goat Trail Traverse" while en route to Birkenhead Peak in British Columbia.

The "Goat Trail Traverse" is not an official trail or path, although a narrow path can be found and followed in many sections of it. This route involves a lot of careful sidehilling, including crossing multiple steep scree gullies such as shown in this photo. Surefootedness is essential during these sections, as a slip can be fatal. Many areas might have stepping locations smaller than boot sizes.

Looks hairy

Actually it reminds me of a slope traverse near the summit of American Border Peak. Perhaps you would have done better on it than I did.

Re: Looks hairy

During our descent, John seemed quite surprised that I thought the steep dirt gully was sketchy... yet I cruised through these sections without much trouble (despite a much higher chance for a fatality if a slip occurs on the Goat Trail Traverse than within the steep dirt gully).

Everyone has different terrain which seems more comfortable than others, I guess.
