Refuge Bivouac Vallot
Bivouac Vallot
View from Biv. Vallot to Mont Blanc and Mont MauditRefuge Bivouac Vallot is located at Mont Blanc 4.807 m, the highest summit of the alps. The small bivy-hut stands between Dome du Gouter and Mont Blanc on a small rock at the start of the Bosses-ridge, the normal route to the main summit. At this place there is also a small observatory and a radio station. Due to the small space inside (12 places), it is officially not allowed to plan a stay over night in this hut. The hut is officially reserved for people in case of emergency, mainly for climbers coming via the long routes from the south or east side of the mountains. In fact that the Refuge Gouter is totally crowed every day of the season, some climbers plan to pass this place and made a bivy at Biv. Vallot. One advantage is to be close to the summit in the morning. You can reach the summit first (maybe at sunrise) before the mass comes up from Refuge de Gouter.
Getting there:
- From Chamonix to Les Houches. Parking at the cable car station.
Access:
- From Les Houches with the cable car to Belvedere. From Belvedere with the train to Nid d'Aigle. In 2 hours to Ref. Tete Rousse. Passing the Grand Couloir (rockfall) and in 2 hours to the Ref. Gouter. In another 2 hours via Dome du Gouter to Biv. Vallot. (Min. 6 hours from Nid d'Aigle)
Alternative access not very common:
- From Chamonix with the cable car to Plan d' Aiguille. Traverse to Refuge Les Grands Mulets and going up to Dome de Gouter and Biv. Vallot. (also ski route)
